97 talon gsx
so i have a 97 talon i bought a year and a half ago without and engine. (this is my first dsm). finally got it going and driving. i am having an issue while cruising. when cruising with consitent throttle the car will start to cut out. starts to run like shit and sound liek a subaru. i am using a 1g cas with harness and am wondering if i would have to change the order of the plug wires and uncheck a box with dsm link. (this is what my research ahs led me to.)
just looking for some input and also some clarification as to what may be causing my issue. using a 97 ecu 7 bolt engine basically stock. big fmic, 16g low boost. thanks in advance. and if you want to contact me directly, feeel free. 612 205 5324 -kent i live in otsego if anyone knows anything about them who wants to stop by hit me up. |
Re: 97 talon gsx
The box you want to uncheck is for misfires.
You don't want to change the plug wire order, the car wouldn't run if they were hooked up wrong. If you had a 95/96 you would have to either change the injector wires or check the "invert CAS signal" in link, but I don't think it's an issue on 97+ since they have the cam sensor on the same side as 1Gs. Is this a 1g 7 bolt? Why are you running a 1g CAS? |
Re: 97 talon gsx
car: 97 talon w/gsx body conversion
engine: 7 bolt independent thrust 4g63, wiseco pistons, scat rods, stock 2g head, 16g ~10-15psi, computer: 97 stock ecu. accoding to rre's site: OBD-II 2G ECU's were designed to detect misfires from a sensor reading directly from the crank. A simulated crank signal from the CAS may not be accurate enough for some ECU's. they also say: A 1G cam angle sensor, (CAS) can be used to provide BOTH the necessary cam and crank signals to the 2G ECU. i am using the 1g cas as that is what my bro in law had laying around as he helped me a lot with this build. but according to the rre site i can use a 1g cas with the cas harnes instead of having to have a crank and cam sensor like the car originally came with. ALSO: here it states at the very bottom of the arcticle that the plug wire order should be changed? http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/arti...1g-cas-2g.html so basically if i have researched correctly i need to unchecl the check for misfires box and change my plug wires around? please any info would be greatfully appreciated. |

Re: 97 talon gsx
so am i on the irght track with what i have found?
car seems to run just fine everywhere else besides when cruising. |
Re: 97 talon gsx
Since you have a 97 you don't have to worry about the plug order or injector wiring. Trust me, if you had the 1/4 and 2/3 coils reversed, the car wouldn't run. I ran into this when swapping my 96 to a 1g CAS. Your car originally had the cam sensor on the same side as a 1G so all you lost was your crank sensor which is more accurate than the CAS.
Just disable the multiple misfire code in link and that will fix it. I dealt with this problem with an AFC for a year before I decided to buy link to fix it. |
Re: 97 talon gsx
awesome this is what i wanted to hear.
so now i am just looking for someone to hook for me and check the misfires box. you can use dsm link through the stock obdII port, and with a astock ecu??? im a newb. |
Re: 97 talon gsx
No, you need an Eprom ECU with the Link chip and their cable to be able to use Link. You can't do anything with a stock ECU.

Re: 97 talon gsx
that sucks.

Re: 97 talon gsx
so to get past this issue without having a eprom ecu i would have to aquire the crank sensor as well? would the 1g green top cas i haev work with the crank sensor like normal or would i need to get the 97 and alter type sensor setup?
|
Re: 97 talon gsx
Yes you would need the crank sensor. And no the green top will not work
|
Re: 97 talon gsx
Well I will have to price out those two sensors then. Thanks for the help.

Re: 97 talon gsx
what am i looking at there?
i have read all of that info over and over. like i said before i have a 2g everything with the 1g cas/harness wired how magnus shows. im am not going to add a potentiometer and chance lean conditions as i dont have a afc. in order for me to use the 1g cas and have it work properly without a crank sensor then i would: A: have to have a eprom ecu with all associated link stuffs B: add a potentiometer easier solution would be just to buy the crank sensor and 97-99 cas. am i not correct with saying this? |
Re: 97 talon gsx
Correct. I would just buy the right sensors for your car. You can probably get them cheap from people that do a 6 bolt swap, or go to a junkyard.

Re: 97 talon gsx
I forgot that you have a 2G block with the crank sensor mounts. Yeah, I'd go that way or buy Link.
