TRUCK STUFF! (actually its just a passat)

So I've been on the hunt for a B7 A4 Avant for a while, but I just could not find one out there that fit the bill. Seriously looking for one with a manual option is basically like seeking out a unicorn--there's really none out there. Then Rosey turned me onto the idea of looking for a Jetta SportWagon SEL 2.0T manual...there are almost less of those out there as they made them only in 2009.

All along I've been looking for black on black and while biking around the neighborhood the other day, I saw a B6 VW Passat wagon. Not a bad looking car so I thought I'd see what was out there.

As luck would have it, somewhat of a unicorn was for sale not far from me! Once I drove it, I loved it. It is a total mom car (previous owner actually had 3 kids), it is stealthy and still kinda fun to drive. Yea it's only FWD but I've done some serious work in the old blue GLI with a set of meaty snow tires on it so screw it!

This is a 2008 VW Passat Wagon, perfect for TRUCK STUFF!

6-speed manual, FWD, Heated faux-leather seats, hill assist (engages brake on a hill for you!), no fancy dual climate control, no cd changer, no nav system, no sunroof...this is the base Passat model with very limited options.

Back seats have this instead of a towel option...it will be getting tint asap :)

Rear gate has auto-lift and auto-close, key-fob operated...perfect for slingin dead hookers (this one's pretty nasty!) or other misc TRUCK STUFF

And best of all, built in Germany (not mexico like the jetta was, but no huge biggie) so somehow some of the 2008's got the newer TSI motor...less compression (9.5:1), but definitely more peppy up top than the older FSI motor and the best part is there's no silly cam-follower tappet for the DI fuel pump that can wear out!

So yea, much cheaper than the A4's I was looking at and should still be able to be a great little daily + utility hauler for me. This thing will see bike and ski racks, lumber, fencing, dogs, and probably plenty of network equipment :) Updates to come!

Very cool...should fit it's intended purpose perfectly! I like that it's 6-speed manual.

P.S. Nothing beats towel option for minimum facial weathering.

Looking good, love me some german wagon! Hard to believe this car was so close to home, for being so hard to find. Glad you got a truck now! I'm excited to see how this little project progresses :)

Nice purchase! Now we know who to call when we need dead hookers to get rid of!

Punk kid has already signed a note saying he will not do any more mods to das volkswagon to obtain more farvergnugen.

Having a hauler is always nice. Suburbans can fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood in back and still close the tailgate, used it a ton! What are the plans for it mod wise?

Ya I am thinking straps + roof rack are the way to go there for me but I measured and I can fit a 10' fence post inside the thing (first weekend project). Will post pics.

Mod-wise, I am going back and forth with 'nothing' and 'some stuff' but ultimately it will likely be all about utility. Here's the list, feel free to add/subtract :)

Phat cargo net (already purchased)
Trunk liner
Oil change
Snow tires for the existing 16" rimz. probably go with 205/60-16 General Altimax Arctics. Only $79/tire!
Snow brush, gonna need a bigger one for this thing I think :)
35% tint. I have a prescription for this, might as well capitalize :)
Valentine1 hardwire kit
Roof rack setup-base rails + ski rack + bike rack, dad has a Saris box that will fit it nicely. Will shop around on these, lots of options.
Trailer hitch. Open to suggestions.
lowering springs. 1" drop is all I want, no stretchy slammed kraut here. H&R or Eibach?
Boost gauge?
Chip. Probably EPL or APR.
Dogbone motor mount insert. Cheap and was a great mod on the GLI.
Summer rimz& tire combo next spring. Probably a basic 18" setup like rosey got for his A3.
Plasti-dip to remove a little bit of the chrome from the front bumper (but not too much)
BSH TSI intake. Maybe.

End of the day, this thing will see regular street use and utility hauling, and I want it to be fun, but beaterX will be my main focus for 'going fast' :)

Menards has good brushes, the ones that extend for semi drivers. Thats what I use, can do the whole car from one side!!

Are you gonna do 35% all around or 20% on the rears since its a wagon?

I can't decide! I think 35 all around will be dandy.

Paging AJ, when's the next tint day? I want to get it on before it gets too cold.
