Lately, I start accelerating in my F-150 and i get a bunch of resistance in the pedals and you hear the engine revving, but it accelerates slowly, even when i floor it, and it wont go past 30 mph. So, I pull over, turn the truck off, check the engine, everything seems normal (to the best of my knowledge) and I go to turn it back on. Then It runs fine. This has happened 3 times in the past week, and it happened twice today, once, while accelerating on a frontage road, and also out of nowhere after working fine for 30 mins. Is there something wrong with my transmission or whats your guys' input?

Auto tranny? Torque converter shot???

Its an auto, everythings stock. I dont think the torque converter's shot

Check the transmission fluid level, and smell the fluid... If it smells burnt (you'll know what I'm talking about if it is) or is a dark color, change it immediately. If the problem persists it's time for a new transmission.

Thats the same thing my van was doing a cople of month ago. Only difference was it wouldn't start slipping until about 50. List of parts that had to be changed-

Torque converter/ pump
All the bands
Valve body
Shift kit
Sun gear

Basically everthing inside the housing. Your torque converter is slipping causing you pump to not pump enough, not enough pressure on the bands let them slip and wear real quick, also not enough flow from the pump lets your tranny overheat. Your fluid will be shot and doing no favor to your tranny. Sucks, auto trannys are way more expencive to get rebuilt than manuals.

How many miles are on it? Sounds like a slipping trans to me.

167K miles, i think it is the tranny. But my dad says its the way i drive :censored:

Probably the trans is worn out, they don't last forever.

I would guess the torque converter. The cadillac I had a while back did the same thing sometimes. I would be getting on the freeway and strp on it. The car would do nothing. I would get back on it and it would go. Also, the neon I had had a bad torque converter. It stripped out causing a fluid leak. The car drove fine most of the time though. Just had to keep her full. There is not really a way to adjust an auto tranny. Everything is pretty much in line unlike a manual where everything is put in place with the clutch and shifter.

If you are able to do a tranny flush yourself, I would do that. It will most likely not fix your problem but it will limit it to the tranny internals (tq converter, bands, etc.). It is most likely not your fault unless you were the one who bought a Ford. My moms Taurus tranny bucks into second gear every time it shifts.

Flushing the trans in a Ford most of the time does more harm then good.
Some auto trans can be adjusted.
