A loooong time ago somebody posted a link to a plate check for MN to see if you're idea had been previously taken.

I recently found a 66/67 plate for my 'Velle and want to see if the number is in use.

Can anybody hook a poor drunk ginger up?

I guarantee it was before the website changed over in 2003.

I don't think any such website exists. At least not anymore. You could try calling the DMV:
Special License Plates, Personalized, Veteran, Collegiate, etc. (651) 297-3166

Otherwise you can PM it to me and I can check.

Yeah, they used to have it in 2000 when I got mine, it disappeared about a year later. You could always write down your top 5 and head over to the DMV, just don't go at lunch time.

This might help a little if you do title look up by plate. Tells you if a title was submitted or not.
