tsi awd cut out at 5krpms! CONFUSED
hey everyone I just got another 1g dsm and I was doing some gear pulls after I put some stuff in the car. wallbro 255 pump. full 3inch. mbc set at 16psi. aftermarket boost gauge I was curious because I was wot and the car cut out at 5k rpms and the car fully shuts down for a split second...fuel cut possibley??? not sure. the car also will not start sometimes like it just keeps cranking over then smells like gas after a while. I changed to a new fpr fuel filter and checked my fuel pump to see if it was leaking there! everything was good there and still nothing. I cant log my car and I have no wideband yet or anything to even try to tune with! I actually remember hearing if you take your bov tbe off and vent to atmosphere it runs richer? (correct me if im wrong but that's what a friend said) but I took the tube off and vent open on my bov then my car would pull to 5500rpms 1st gear and 2nd-4th gear was at 6krpms then maybe 5500rpms maybe once it did in 4th gear. my buddie told me fpr and fuel filter would fix it...nopehttp://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/imag...s/banghead.gif still at the same spot...idk what it would be I see a lot of people have had this happen but they all have different things...like usual. but anything that you can throw at me will help im going to ask my cousin to barrow his wide band. I did a BLT and it leaked I fixed all my couplers and the only thing that leaks now is my tb but its not bad at all...please help with any ideas much appreciated from my fellow dsmershttp://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/images/smilies/hmmm.gif |

Re: need help! new to mitsustyle
Think about it for a second. You opened up the exhaust system, turned up boost, and added more fuel, without any way to compensate for any of it or to see what your ecu is reading. How would you expect it to run?
Sorry if that sounds harsh, but you need to have some way to tune your car before doing anything major with fuel, let alone turning up boost. you need to get a wideband and either dsmlink or some other way to log and tune. And keep the BOV recirculated, that's only adding to the problem, your friend is right. |
Re: need help! new to mitsustyle
If you didn't eat the steering wheel, then it isn't fuel cut. You will have no doubt if that is what is going on. Recirc the BOV again and put some new plugs in gapped to .028". That is probably your problem, the plugs.

Re: need help! new to mitsustyle
Fpr will help. Is it still a 14b car? Is it stock other than the above mentioned mods? If so then Jet probably gave you your answer.

Re: need help! new to mitsustyle
i just changed my plugs actually like 2 weeks ago it didnt help. i ran the same set up with my last 92 tsi awd. the only thing i had really different is a eprom.
im putting my bov back to resirc anyways like its suppose to be i just wanted to see if it was different and it did make a differents. but still not legit to drive around like that. |

yes i know its harsh but like i said my last one was built the same just had a eprom. even when i had it completly stock at 8-10psi with stock exhaust it still did the :cut out:  just happened at a different rpm. i know what fuel cut is like i had it happen with my last dsm when it boost creaped. all i know it my car cuts out fully and sounds like my fuel pump relay clicks on and off...ill see if i can post a video |
Re: need help! new to mitsustyle
What plugs are you running?
2 weeks you could still foul out a plug and not work right. Also you could try .24-.26 as a gap But agree with jet I'd say plugs and wires. |

i did see my wire harness was rewired...but all the wires were connected correctly. i was very upset about seeing the wire harness like that after i purchased the car |

Re: need help! new to mitsustyle
Video not available.
I would run some fresh BPR7ES and start out at .028 again. Get some good wires when you get them, I've always had great luck with Taylor's. |
Re: need help! new to mitsustyle
Ok I'll give wires and fresh plugs a shot again and I'll get back in a couple days after I test it out

Re: need help! new to mitsustyle
If it isn't plugs, then I would turn the boost down to 12psi and start from there. You say in the first post it might be fuel cut, then later on you say you know what fuel cut is because your last car had it. Which is it? If your face didn't slam in the steering wheel, then it isn't fuel cut. It is blatantly obvious vs. a misfire. Make sure it is running good at stock boost levels before you start pushing what is safe on a nearly stock car.

Re: need help! new to mitsustyle
I've never once felt fuel cut like you describe it. I'll turn my boost down and it'll just cut out at a different rpm
|
Re: need help! new to mitsustyle
Also if the plugs are fouled, you should look into what is causing that. With the fuel pump you are probably running rich which can do it.

Re: need help! new to mitsustyle
Okay. I'll see if I can barrow a wideband and see what's going on
|
Re: need help! new to mitsustyle
Are you still on stock injectors?
|
Re: need help! new to mitsustyle
Yes I still have 450s
|
Re: need help! new to mitsustyle
Like I said before if it helps my car will not start sometimes and start to smell like gas bad then when it pops off it's spudders to a idle then clears itself out....
