Okay, lately I have been hearing alot about Cold Air Intake and how its being installed stock on some new model cars. Just wanted to know, What is Cold air intake (As opposed to hot air intake, maybe?) and what it does preformance-wise. Sorry if I sound completely stupid about this.

A cold air intake is just and intake that is usually routed differently where it can suck air that is colder than from a stock location. Like on a DSM a popular one is the Buschur cold air intake that the filter ends up where the stock side mount intercooler was. It gets air that is not under the hood so its obviously colder and the faster you go it basically pushes air into the filter that is outside temp.

Other advantages are most cold air intakes are a lot less restrictive (bigger piping) and if you have a MAFT or are running speed density for a mass air flow signal you don't have the restriction of the stock MAS in the way.
