Bad Prosport fuel pressure gauges
I thought I would share this info. A couple weeks ago I ordered a Prosport performance series electronic fuel pressure gauge kit. I installed the kit and the gauge reads 13 psi high, after testing the sending unit, I found the resistance was out of spec. It was 5 ohms, needs minimum 10 ohms. Contacted Prosport, had a new sender at my door a week later. With the new sender installed the gauge read 10 psi high, tested it at 6 ohms. It says right on the sender 10-180 ohms. After a few calls with Prosport I found out this is a known issue and they don't have any answers. He said if I can wait a while hopefully they will have an answer/solution in about ten days.
I ordered online through MAP, I know they have nothing to do with the problem. That's why I contacted Prosport directly. I'm wondering why Prosport is still selling these kits if they know they are defective. Hopefully nobody used a Prosport fuel pressure gauge to set their fuel pressure without verifying pressure with a mechanical gauge. |

Re: Bad Prosport fuel pressure gauges
Ouch.
I have never trusted Prosport stuff. I had one of their oil pressure gauges that wouldn't read correctly after a month of use. I'll pay a little extra for an Auto Meter any day of the week. In a perfect world they'll ask if you want a replacement or your money back. |
Re: Bad Prosport fuel pressure gauges
Well this is unsettling now that I wanted to buy all of my gauges. Lol

Re: Bad Prosport fuel pressure gauges
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying all Prosport stuff is junk. I don't know if that's true. But for $40+ gauge I expect it to work properly for more than a month. Especially one as critical as oil pressure.
I'm interested to see how Prosport handles this. |
Re: Bad Prosport fuel pressure gauges
I'm selling a fuel PSI/voltage dual gauge....
The voltage can be hooked up anywhere, i had it at my fuel pump to check voltage at the pump since that is important for fuel delivery. I also have boost, trans temp, oil psi. |

Re: Bad Prosport fuel pressure gauges
something i learned about prosport gauges, and most cheap aftermarket guages in general. They're little more than dummy lights, to tell you whether you have pressure/temperature or not. Maybe you can count on it within a couple orders of magnitude :P

Re: Bad Prosport fuel pressure gauges
I have a prosport electric boost gauge and don't have any issues with it yet. It's been 1 year since it was install and am interested in seeing if it reads the same as db's dyno in a month or so.

Re: Bad Prosport fuel pressure gauges
Prosport called me yesterday to verify which gauge I had. He said his boss is in Taiwan searching for a new manufacturer wtf, all the bad senders say JPN on them for Japan. He said he will give me a call again soon. I'm just waiting to see what happens, I'll most likely end up getting my money back because this is stupid.
If you have any electronic prosport gauges test them, or verify they are correct using a mechanical gauge, I don't think it is just the fuel senders they have problems with. |
Re: Bad Prosport fuel pressure gauges
Is it just me, or do you automatically think mediocre quality when you hear "Made in Taiwan"

Re: Bad Prosport fuel pressure gauges
Prosport is junk. Coolant temp one reads 20deg lower than it should in my friends car. All prosport is a bling bling OMG KEWL NEON BLUE LIGHTS OMG IT BEEPS OMFG

Re: Bad Prosport fuel pressure gauges
Prosports are good for the person on a tight budget. But, like most everything else that's inexpensive, there are drawbacks.

Re: Bad Prosport fuel pressure gauges
I had prosport gauges in my 2g. They failed within a thousand miles (oil pressure and water temp). Decided to get real gauges in my new car, they aren't that much more money.

Re: Bad Prosport fuel pressure gauges
I bought an autometer oil pressure gauge, and a boost/vac gauge for like $25 used on here. Never had issues, this makes me happy that I never went with prosport.
