LQ4 or L33

Lower comp with larger displacement, or higher comp/better heads and lighter weight. Which would you go with?

Both around the same price. On a budget

Car is 3700 lbs with 4.11's 3500 stall. Driving around for a year or two with only a cam/intake swap and future plans for boost.

LMK your thoughts

depends on HP goal. The cast iron block is nice, but moves around just as much as the aluminum version. You can make a nice 408 CI out of the cast iron block and put hard block up to the bottom of the water pump holes and its a great base for 1000whp turbo setup. The smaller displacement aluminum blocks do well also, just make sure the engine machine work is done with the mains and both torque plates bolted on, and hard block as well.

Give MAP a call, they are working more and more with turbo LS stuff.

Or get an lq9 they got the good 6.0 block and rotating assemblies but have way better flowing heads than the lq4. I'm pretty sure they were in escalades and such

No block fill or machine work. Guys are getting redonk power out of both with stock internals

The only difference between a LQ4 and a LQ9 is the pistons. Everything else is the same including block and heads

I say get the one with better heads. More flow more power.

Yeah, I haven't heard of filling the block at street power levels. Get the 6.0 block, put the factory aluminum heads slightly ported, done.

I found out my 07 Tahoe came factory with pretty much the C5 Z06 heads. If it didn't weigh 5000+ pounds, it would be pretty quick.

I have a LQ4 in my Denali XL and it is really strong, even stock with 325hp. 5,600lb curb weight and 1/4 mile in the very low 15's. Pretty impressive.

Ended up finding a minty 16K mile L33 for a good price so I'm going to pick it up this week.

Like the idea of 100 less lbs hanging over the front.

Nice choice! They are getting cheap enough that we are going to see them stuffed in more and more things.

Less weight out front = easier wheelies! :D
