Free Valve Technology- "Inside Koenigsegg"

I found this fascinating so I thought I'd share. Apparently "Inside Koenigsegg" is an 8-part series from Drive; I've watched some of the other videos and those are fascinating as well.

I can't wait for more of this F1 tech to filter down!

Great vid!

It sounds quite interesting. I'd like to see what kind of a price tag they'd attach to something like this.

When I was a mechanical engineering student at the UofM in 2004, another student did a report on that valve technology. I thought it was cool. I never knew they could machine it in an older model car though.

I like how they did a retrofit into an existing "normal" car. Very cool.

That is fucking crazy, sadly I'm sure the US and the other greedy bastards won't let that get into public hands.

I wonder how much that would cost.....

I think the opposite since it helps with emissions, mileage, etc which are in line with 2016 CAFE standards.

This is an honest question, what about hydrogen powered cars then?
It seems like this would be the best alternative, but no-one would be able to make money off it like they do with oil so we don't hear about it.

Hopefully someone can educate me.

Storage and infrastructure are the huge issues with hydrogen. Have you seen one of those hydrogen "gas tanks"? Current pipelines don't work for hydrogen either.

Re: Free Valve Technology- "Inside Koenigsegg"

I personally think the main reason is the lack of profit behind it.

Re: Free Valve Technology- "Inside Koenigsegg"

Hydrogen and this free valve technology are mutually exclusive-- this impacts the contruction and operation of an internal combustion engine, no matter what fuel is being used. It already seems clear that there's no silver bullet to solving for the 2016 CAFE standards-- engine technology, fuel technology, hybrid technology, aerodynamics, materials, weight, etc. are all being considered.

That said, I'm not deeply knowledgeable about alternative fuels and advancing automotive technologies, and I really don't want to be at the start of, or center of, a politically-charged debate about things for which I have limited knowledge and zero control. (More simply, I don't wanna debate this.)
