2006 Yamaha R1

I'm bored so figured I'd make a thread on my bike as it makes it easier to look back when stuff was done and track progress.

My dream bike growing up was always some sort of black liter bike and being Yami fan I picked up my '06 R1 in June 2012.

When I bought it it had most of the basic mods I wanted done to it already.

Mods when picked up:
Solo seat cover
Tinted Windscreen
Full Akrapovic exhaust
GTYR Filter
Power Commander PC3
Tuned on pump gas
Intergrated tail light
Flush mount front turn signals
Cool red/black grips
Swing arm mounted plate bracket
Black Adjustable levers
Red Corbin Seat

Rode it for most of the summer without any big mods

Around July I had the urge to go to the track so I ordered up a PMR kill switch and Schnitz Racing lowering strap brackets and a lowering strap.

I think I ran some mid 10's nothing real impressive but got hooked again.

Rode it around some more, went through a few tires, installed a radar detector, and rode it out to Sturgis.

Eventually I wanted to get every little bit out of it so I got mirror block of plates, double buble windscreen, stomp grip, 520 chain conversion with +1 rear sprocket, quick shifter, smog block off plates and eventually a small nitrous kit.

Mid tear down for nitrous and block off plate install:

Went to the track after the nitrous install but the plastic nitrous line fell out and wasn't spraying so kind of a bummer. Wanted to get the most out of it so I ordered an extension kit and a drag radial and went back to the track with a bunch of style guys.

Best pass to date

This weekend I ordered up an adjustable kick stand and lowering links to help get a better launch. I also plan on getting some more aggressive gearing as well.

Still tring to debate if I should go with an air shifter or a bigger nitrous kit which would let me run a solid 50rwhp shot with race gas.

Hopefully you guys don't mind a bike thread on 'style!:VP2:

That trap is sick, you need to get out and run some big dogs this year instead of picking on us little guys.

I like the thread.

We need some more bikes in this forum. What bike did you have before this? I think I remember you having an r6 raven?

There are a few other guys that have bikes on here, I just don't think most make threads, but i was bored and looking at a lot of parts this weekend.

Yep I had a raven r6 before this which I traded for a super moto at the beggining of 2012. I had the super moto, R1 and my gsx for a while which was a cool to have 3 cool vehicles.

At the moment I don't think I'll run around with the bottle on like I used to. 153 was the best trap ever too, trapped high 140's consitently the last day.

Get another one! I'm starting to think the cheap, reliable, fast only applies to cars. Bikes can be pretty much all three when comparing to cars

Talked to a few local tuners and they all said my nitrous setup should be just fine to spray a bigger shot at it without upgrading. So I'll order up air shifter stuff tonight, new nitrous brackets to mount the bottle in the swing arm, new sprockets and bigger nitrous jets since I lost all of mine! Order up a clutch this week too as the stock one shouldn't have lasted as long as it did and maybe some velocity stacks if I feel like blowing money. Then the bike will be done as far as anything I wanted to do to it besides maybe a gas cap and head work if I ever win the lottery.

Lets see how deep into the 9's I can get this pig:spin:

If I could afford it lol. I wish I would have bought a bike.
I could have bought two nice rockets for what I have wrapped up in the talon. Or I could have built one hell of a turbo busa! I def miss my busa lol

MMMmmm turbo busa! I've always wanted to ride a turbo bike, I would imagine that has got to be a bad ass feeling

Re: 2006 Yamaha R1

Yeah the only way to describe that thing was stupid lol. It was awesome! On 7psi it made 230hp at the wheel. I never had any good races with it though. I want another one bad lol. If you ever have the chance to ride one definitely take it!

That is an awesome bike! Gives me the itch to get a bike again, but sadly I dont think it will happen.

Ohhh I would, I couldn't imagine a turbo bike on a stock wheel base. A 35 shot made stock wheel base iffy and fun but not fast.

Thanks! Doooo it before you get married and have kids! Definitely fun to cruise around on and gets pretty good mileage to boot

Re: 2006 Yamaha R1

It was stretched 6in and lowered 3in. It wouldn't wheelie but would roast the tire through first and second if you wanted to lol. I think you should talk to Richard at RCCturbo and have him build you a kit for the R1!

Re: 2006 Yamaha R1

That'd be pretty crazy! I'd love to go turbo but maybe on a bigger bike like a busa some day. I'd still like to have this bike be able to go out and hit the twisties in a day or two worth of work.

Did you ever get your bike tuned anywhere in the cities? I talked to Turbo Todd he seemed pretty cool but I'm leaning more towards Bill "Hitman" from MC Dyno Tech. He said he wanted me around during the dyno to help drain the tank for race gas and can switch out jets and stuff which most people might think is dumb but I want to learn and be hands on which I think is cool.

Too bad Shane extranomeatpimpinainteasy Ziegler doesn't want to tune nitrous bikes :(

Is bill the guy that used to have hitman motor sports? If it is I want to say I don't remember hearing to many good things about him. Or at least about hitman motor sports. And turbo Todd from midnight cycles in mpls? I would go to turbo Todd. He is super helpful and knows his shit really good! He's the only guy I would have let touch my busa here locally but I was turbo. I was going to have him tune the busa but we had a bad storm the day before and it took out some electronics in the dyno room and never got around to rescheduling. Richard sends a pc map with his turbo kits and Todd said those are usually pretty solid so I just ran that for the summer.

Too bad Shane doesn't tune bikes is right! That was the first thing I thought when I got the busa lol. But after dealing with Todd a little bit a seeing how much he knew about turbo bikes I felt comfortable with letting him work on the busa.

Ohhh really. Yea I think he used to be hitman motor sports. What kind of stuff? Maybe shoot me a PM with bad things if you don't want stuff public. Yea Todd is at midnight cycles in Muderapolis right by all those biker bars near Augsburg. Those are really the only two guys that got back to me about tuning a nitrous bike. Hmmm when I went to go talk to Todd he did have a bunch of quick car/bike guys in there so he must know what he is doing.

Meh I don't mind. I remember when I was researching who to have tube the busa I heard of hitman blowing up a few turbo bikes on the dyno. When you turbo a stock busa engine they are very picky about their tune and will blow head gaskets real easy if they aren't tuned right. And I just remember hearing about a lot of overall poor customer performance.

Plus everyone on zg and mnsbr recommended Todd for a turbo bike. I mean hell he had a busa making over 700hp if I remember correctly. So he knows what he's doing.

Re: 2006 Yamaha R1

That's not good to hear, maybe I just feel like Hitman is a better sales man. I guess I still have time to decide. I'm just glad both said to keep with my fogger setup over a spray bar like everybody says on the forums.

Ordered up half my air shifter stuff from grainger.

PN #:
5ZEE4 - Air Cyl
5THR1 - Rod clevis
6JJ52 - Solenoid

Need to order a regulator to regulate the nitrous pressure down to a 120psi, a switch and a few fittings/lines and should have an air shifter on the cheap :)
