Mitsu going under in 2013?
Still speculation at this point but was a little shocked to see Mitsu on this list:
http://hsrd.yahoo.com/_ylt=AuPmYizWA...150000624.html I hope it doesn't happen, I am curious about the next gen Evo! |
Re: Mitsu going under in 2013?
Won't happen. They've put a lot already into their upcoming 2014 models.

Re: Mitsu going under in 2013?
No
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32464 Mitsubishi's sales losses were intention. They couldn't make 100 million dollars worth of renovations to the Normal, IL plant with out shutting down production lines for the Galant, Eclipse, and Endeavor. They have planned for, and expected those numbers. Prior to this, they were the number one fastest growing brand. Mitsubishi's financial situation is just fine. The company has it's hands in more than just cars and grossed over 90 billion dollars last year. |
Re: Mitsu going under in 2013?
Mitsubishi made the reactor head and steam generators we (Westinghouse) installed as an upgrade to a nuke plant in Nebraska a couple years back. Crazy how many different industries they have their fingers in.

Re: Mitsu going under in 2013?
Mitsubishi makes EVERYTHING!!!!!!! Go look on your air conditioner(might have a mitsubishi fan or condenser) They are damn near a monopoly, as halon said they are into everything..

Re: Mitsu going under in 2013?
Then I recently read this on Autoblog, seems they just need better PR.
Mitsubishi Lancer, Outlander Sport named 2013 IIHS Top Safety Picks http://www.autoblog.com/2012/12/27/m...top-safety-pi/ |
Re: Mitsu going under in 2013?
isn't this strictly mitsubishi motors north america? Not the entire company?...
-Colin |
Re: Mitsu going under in 2013?
Yeah, of course it isn't the entire company. Mitsubishi Motors is its own subsidiary and Mitsu NA is a division of that. And Mitsu gained a 3% market share in 2011 after losing hugely the last 5+ years. Not what I would call earth shattering. I love Mitsu and they have a lot of potential, but they seem to be making some bad choices lately.
Suzuki pulled out of NA but didn't shut down the entire world's production. They better get their act together though! Ran across this too... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-20793829 |
Re: Mitsu going under in 2013?
The Suzuki thing was entirely different.
Suzuki the parent company and American Suzuki Motor Corporation (ASMC) are much like Mitsubishi and Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA). The difference is that ASMC was intending to stay in the US. Suzuki the parent company was not. Furthermore, the reason they were not selling well was because of supply. Dealers in the US were getting left over inventory from other markets. This made it really hard to get specific color and package combinations that people wanted. With Mitsubushi if someone wants a color/package combination and doesn't mind waiting, I can get them whatever they want. This was not the case with Suzuki. ASMC needed at US plant to keep up with demands. Suzuki opted not to invest in one. Mitsubishi however just dumped 100 million in to renewing the Normal, IL plant. Not at all the same story. Quote:

Re: Mitsu going under in 2013?
Hope they don't go under here in the US, but they really need to step up their offerings in the future. Hopefully the next evo won't suck also.
|
Re: Mitsu going under in 2013?
None of the Evos have sucked yet, I'm sure Mitsu will just keep improving like they have been. My guess is they go down in size though to follow Subaru's play.

Re: Mitsu going under in 2013?
The Evo is turning into a hybrid if I do remember correctly, if that is an improvement then I guess..

Re: Mitsu going under in 2013?
Wonder if it will be something like the NSX hybrid setup, where 2 wheels are powered by gas, and 2 powered by electric. Seems kind of interesting to me.

Re: Mitsu going under in 2013?
Did you know that drastic drop in sales around 2002 was a direct result of Denny Hecker?
|
Re: Mitsu going under in 2013?
lol, wonder what he's selling these days.
|
Re: Mitsu going under in 2013?
Denny Hecker almost single handedly ended Mitsubishi's US presence. He held several millions of dollars worth of advertising. He approached MMNA about trading these advertising lots for several millions worth of lease returned vehicles.
MMNA agreed. What Hecker failed to tell them was that the advertising spots they now possessed, and had spend their entire advertising budget for the next several years on, were from 2am-6am. |
Re: Mitsu going under in 2013?
I swear somebody mentioned the i-Miev Pikes Peak car but didn't see it when I skimmed the thread. This just popped up today. Interesting read.
