NHRA License

Do any of you guys have your NHRA License?

I know I have to get the physical and fill out the application form but I'm a little confused on how much I have to pay and when. Also confused why they make you do 1 half pass, 3 moderate passes and then the 2 final runs.

Any help would be appricated! Also it'd be nice to know who has their license so I can buy them lunch if they verify my passes

Re: NHRA License

I think Mark Leasure mentioned he's got it. Chris Carey and Kyle I believe have it, not sure who else. :D

Yea I know Mark has his as he was saying something about it just getting updated when we all went to the track last. Maybe I'll get lucky and he'll see this and put his $.2 in. LaCroix is going to need one for sure if he doesn't already have one.

Re: NHRA License

Yep, I have my license and had the chance, $$ to renew it this year too! You need to be a member of NHRA, its $69.00/year. Then the license is $100 every 2 years. So for payment at the time that you want to get your license is a minimum of 169.00.

The link has the prices:

You also need your chassis cert too, if I remember correctly was around 175.00 for an appointment inspection. In the beginning of the race season Jim Bongard (952) 544-4151 from our local NHRA district is at local tracks like BIR and rockfalls, it is cheaper to go when he is there.
As for the passes they just want to make sure you’re in control of the car, they don’t even really watch you for us slow guys, but imagine licensing for top fuel. The rules are the same. Hope that helps. And yes, if you need people to sign for you feel free to contact me when you want to make your passes!

Re: NHRA License

A few things Vassil ran into this year if you are planning on doing the runs at Rockfalls:

You have to make 6 passes in order, alone. Cannot run next to anyone in the other lane.

First 2 passes are very mild, get on it and let off at half track
2nd 2 passes are getting on it and letting off around 1000ft
Last 2 passes are all out and you must run 9.99 or 135 or faster.

Also as Mark said, you need 2 NHRA licensed drivers to "witness" and sign off on your time slips. Most people will just look at the slip and call it good though.

Re: NHRA License

Also... All the passes do not have to be done the same day. You have like a year and a half or 2 years to complete it I think. But they still need to be in order.

Re: NHRA License

Talking with NHRA division office they usually require drivers of the same class to sign off. They were trying to make me find 2 guys with motorcycle nhra license but after saying I didn't know anybody he said I can have car guys sign off.

Going to go get a physical around April then go and try make some passes on a test and tune day where there should be a few muscle car guys out at Rock Falls that could sign off on my passes.
