Mazdaspeed6 for DD?

has 105,000 just looking for a good practical DD. 1 owner from AZ. Test drove it and liked it a lot but not sure if I was in love with it. Anyone have experiences with one or own one? Need some advice is all.

Yeah, I had one, for a daily, it works pretty well. Much more comfortable and quiet than an Evo. I'd recommend it.

I dunno. I just remember reading the mazda6's have issues with the auto trannys. I have no idea but something to look into.

If I remember correctly, AJ had to get his MS6 transmission replaced. Plus his turbo seals were puking oil. But if this car has made it to 100k, maybe those parts have been replaced.

The Mazdaspeed 6's only came 6spd manual.

They are decent cars as far as I have found. I was going to buy one this spring, had everything good to go but something didnt feel right and I wanted wait a few days. When I came to finally purchase the car someone had just put a down payment on it. Maybe it was a blessing but I would have enjoyed the car.

It was a 2007, 62k miles, black leather with navigation and asking $13,995. They are not the easiest to find but you can find decent deals with them. Look around before you pull the trigger on this one.

The driveline is the weakest part, tranny and rear diff, the 2.3 Dizi is a great motor. If you don't plan on launching it or beating on it, it'll serve you well from what I've heard.

One of the guys here at work has one, decent car but it hasn't held up real well. I have rode to lunch a few times and here are some squeaks and rattles going on and it just felt tired. I think he has 130k on it and had it since new. I think he said it was a 2006. He gets it dealer service regularily, not sure what he has had issues with. I can check if you want. He doesn't drive it hard either.

Re: Mazdaspeed6 for DD?

The one I test drove drove well. Spooled nice and easy, but one concerning thing I had noticed is that when I disengaged the e-brake and moved the car it was almost stuck. Not cause of the brakes, but felt like it didn't wanna transfer the power at first. Second seemed sticky, but the more I drove it, the better it got. Just didn't seem worth $13,000 to me.
So let me ask this. What would be a good used car to look into for around $10k-14k that is still fun? Looking for more of a Daily but could still have fun with.

Re: Mazdaspeed6 for DD?

I really liked mine, actually bought it instead of getting an EVO in late 2006. I'm looking at another one for a daily to replace the current regular 6 that is coming off lease next spring.

Get a Mazda dealer to pull the history to see if items like the clutch or turbo had been replaced. Those two items where the factory recalls that I had done. Other than that I had no issues and have a few friends with them now as daily drivers and winter rides when they aren't driving a miata or vette respectively. They both really enjoy the comforts as well as the awd. And it's not a slow car by any means, but performance wise it's by no means an EVO either obviously.

For the money, there's lots out there to yes this against and then see what you like.

A4
Jetta GLI (not awe but I gotta throw that in the mix since I own one & love it)
Acura TL (not awd I don't think?)
Scooby 2.5GT
Volvo S60 (R?)

All around the same year, high-ish mileage should go for within your ~$13k budget.

Re: Mazdaspeed6 for DD?

Don't get an S60R, as my as I loved mine they are problem prone especially in winter in MN. Their transfer case has a softer metal and when they hit pavement and ice at the same time they strip the splines. It isn't bad labor wise to replace it, but the part itself is 1800 dollars...

If not a TL, RL's (05+) are really nice!!
