Low oil pressure at idle, once hot.

Just threw in a new/used shortblock into my car and once the coolant temps are up to normal, it seems that my oil psi at idle is 0.
This is with idle about 850rpms in drive.

As soon as i hit the gas pedal it goes up to 10-15+ and goes up from there. I'm running 15w-40 rotella for now, but I might change to something better and thinner after reading the oil temp/oil pressure thread made by Jeffgst.

Thanks
Aaron

I had an A/T Talon that did this on 5W-30 but was fine with 10W-30.

My ex's 2g Tsi awd auto did this too. Parked it before I figured it out and never touched it. Good luck

It scares me, esp. since i just spun a bearing.

I bet

I know it really doesn't answer your question, but if you bumped your idle up to 1k, does it have pressure then?

I've tried that already, and it doesn't 0 out, but the FSM states 11psi at idle.

Try Slick 50.

If it were me I'd bump the idle up a little bit just so pressure isn't at zero until you can figure it out.

You know if the oil pressure relief valve was ported? Maybe ported too much?

Forward facing oil pressure relief set up differently/sticking?

No, looks good.

A few people are saying this is normal and that if the dummy light isn't coming on its nothing to worry about.

Are you using the stock gauge for reference or an aftermarket?

I uncover the dipstick hole and feel how much pressure is hitting my cheek.

Hahahaha!!! Your ass cheek right?

Throw some 20w50 in there and let'r buck!

I was having issues with an engine running really low oil pressure. Threw some 20w50 in and everything is fine. I'd rather run a little thicker oil than too think. Even 20w50 looks like water at 200*.

I got it figured out.

What was it? The oil?

Grounding issue. VEI has been awesome with their support, their main cust. service guy Neil, just sent me an email.

I think that I am going to switch my whole setup though so I need to either sell or find a new place to mount these.
