Painted Calipers
I'm guessing I'm not the only one here who's painted there calipers before. In no way do I claim to be an expert on this, just did a bunch of reading online and asked around before deciding on everything, and figured I'd share what I did.
My front calipers were looking pretty rough. So decided to paint them. After reading around, asking around, I decided to just use regular rustoleum spray paint. Here's the before pic: http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1346986129 For prep, I unloaded a can of brake cleaner on them to get them clean. Then took a wire wheel to them. Then sprayed more brake cleaner on them. Here's what they looked like all said and done: http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...2&d=1346986129 Then using tape, newspaper, whatever I could find, I masked off the areas I didn't want to get paint on. Then hung them so they were ready to paint http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/IMAG1664.jpg Applied 3 coats of gloss black rustoleum, each coat within about an hour of each other. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...3&d=1346986143 I let the last coat dry outside and with a fan on it for about 5 hours, then applied these decals I bought off ebay. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...4&d=1346986143 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...5&d=1346986150 Last thing was I applied 5 very light coats of rustoleum clear over them. Let dry overnight, reinstalled, and that's it. Looks much better. Time will tell how they hold up I suppose. http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/data/656/IMAG1673.jpg http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da.../IMAG16722.JPG |
Re: Painted Calipers
Looks good, now you just need different rims so they really stand out

Re: Painted Calipers
Regular rustoleum paint? Not even high heat? With any high speed braking, calipers really heat up. Hopefully the paint doesnt start flaking since its not high heat.
When I did my DSM calipers red, I bead blasted them and then painted them with a caliper paint kit. Looks good though! |
Re: Painted Calipers
I've had good success using the various high heat caliper paints you can get at the parts store.

Re: Painted Calipers
I used reg paint on the brembos and they are still holding up fine also.

Re: Painted Calipers

Re: Painted Calipers
Very nice, looks sexy.

Re: Painted Calipers
Looks good. I'm putting in drilled rotors, ceramic pads, and getting all new calipers that I'm going to repaint with high heat paint. Might post it up later.
