Following too close ticket

Anyone ever had one of these and know the approx amount they expect you to pay?

I was in the wrong place at the wrong time this morning and was caught between a lady riding my ass and an officer in front of me. We were going downhill too so that didn't help. The officer would hit his brakes and then so would I and then the car behind me would be right on my tailgate. So he pulled us both over. I'm curious if she got a ticket or started crying or something and got out of it haha.

So happy Friday to me!!

why would you ride a cops ass??? just slow down and let the lady behind you deal with it, she probably would have gotten pissed and flew around you and the cop would have gotten her only.

It was an unmarked car an I didn't think I was following too closely.

It sucks that you got a ticket, but I'm kind of glad that they are giving these tickets out. It seems like everyday people are riding other peoples asses closer and closer.

Yeah I'm usually not one to tailgate either and didn't think it was really bad but I guess he did so whatever it is what it is. I was just curious if anyone knows how much it will be.

agreed. People are always riding on my ass (no homo). When I got pulled over a couple of months ago with a warning, the cop gave me a list of the different speeds you went over and the fine you'd get. I got pulled over in IGH (Dakota County). I'm not sure if there's a difference in Ramsey County or others. I'll try to look for the list again.

something like(not accurate):

5mph+ $150
10-15+ $180
and so on...

he isn't looking for speeding ticket fines. He wants to know about how much the fine will be for his ticket he got for following to closely (tailgating). I personally have no idea.

Is there an ordinance or statue violation number? Best bet would be to google that to find the amount if you don't want to wait for it to get into the system.

I'd go see a gearing officer if you have a clean reccord and see if they cut you a break though.

One of two options:

1. Take it to a hearing officer and get it off your record, if you don't have another offense in a year. Pay the fine and keep it off your record or your insurance WILL go up.

2. Take it to court and say you were following a safe distance but the person behind you was tailgating and didn't want them to rear end you. You might get off with a warning. My dad had a following too close ticket and cost him a lot of money on his insurance for a few years, and he's never had a speeding ticket.

Personally I would take it to a hearing officer and get it removed from your record and just pay the fine, rather than take it to court.

FYI smaller towns don't have hearing officers, in St Cloud I had to talk to the county prosecutor.

Yeah, thats the way it is here... (Winona - where he got the ticket)

Jed - Just go to the court date and talk to the prosecuting attourny and explain the situation. Usually they will reduce the fine and have it not go on your record as long as you have been good... They might do some sort of "driving probation" to where you need to be good for 30-60-90 days or more with no tickets and then its off your record.

Cant hurt to talk to them and explain. Also, there should be a number on the citation that you can call and you enter the ticket number and it tells you the fine. At least in Winona County there is.

If they're giving tickets for tailgating, they should also give tix for the main cause of tailgating: cutting in!!

Call the # on the ticket? That is exactly why it is there.
