Rebuilding rear diff... pinion height?
So the factory service manual specifies the use of 2 special parts (MB990836 and MB990392) that makes the process pretty black and white.
Of course, without them, I have no idea how you do this properly... without just sortof 'guessing' and having to take everything back apart when your backlash or gear mesh isn't acceptable. How do other people do this? I'm interested in hearing alternatives. From what i've found, not too many people have actually rebuilt their rear diffs from the ground up. Has anyone done this who can lend some advice? if not, I'll probably be calling OTC to get the special tools. |
Re: Rebuilding rear diff... pinion height?
You should be able to adjust the backlash using a dial indicator those funkey looking ones with the wise grip and shim it ..or are you asking for the backlash spec?
