Advice kn what to do.
Well I got my cylinder Head off tonight. There's a nice hole in my cylinder 3 piston and the valves and head in that cylinder are trashed too. It also looks like some chunks of metal went out the exhaust since there are some small nicks in the exhaust wheel of my turbo. There was also quite a bit of oil and metal shavings In the intake manifold
when I got the valve cover off I found both the rocker arms for the cyl3 exhaust valves just laying in the bottom of the head. I'm assuming that was what caused the meltdown but have no idea what actually happened. Now I've never debt with something like this before and would like a little advice on what I should do to get this thing going again. So it's looking like I need a piston, valves for cyl3, a new head and the headwork and whatever else the headshop finds, maybe a new turbine wheel for the turbo? maybe an oil pump since the was quite a bit of metal shavings In the engine? Does that sound like a good start? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Oh here's a couple pictures of the carnage too. |

Re: Advice kn what to do.
I should have a newer oil pump/front cover assembly for you and a head.

Ok pm me how much you want for them. Thanks

Re: Advice kn what to do.
Similar thing happened to me a few years ago. I replaced all the rod bearings, and then just bottle honed that cylinder and installed a new rod & piston. Cleaned the crap outta everything best I could. Put on a new head. Car ran great. That cylinder always had 5-10psi less than the other cylinders when doing a compression test but good enough for me.

Nope didn't replace the oil pump.
I understood there was some risk involved with what I did, but luckily for me it ended up working out fine. |
Re: Advice kn what to do.
Alrighty that will give me something to think about

Re: Advice kn what to do.
So i was thinking that the rocker arms coming off caused it but I was looking at a picture I took if the head and one of the intake valves is broken and stuck in the exhaust valves. So exhaust valves couldn't close all the way and the rocker arms were loose because of that.
I guess I still have no idea what caused the meltdown lol |
