Clutch/tranny issues... maybe? *RESOLVED*
The other day I noticed that 1st gear was a bit more difficult to go in and reverse is grinding every once and a while. My clutch engagement has always been really low on the pedal and seems to have moved just far down enough where when the pedal is to the floor the clutch is either fully disengaged or partially disengaged - it's inconsistent. If I put the car in first and two step (4,500RPM) the car lurches forward a little (it seems to "surge" a bit but only moves forward an inch or so).
Fluid in the reservoir is full and I followed proper instructions to set the clutch pedal (found the point where the bleeder was blocked off and backed it off a little bit). I don't seem to be loosing any fluid from the slave but there's a hint of fluid on the outside of it (hard to tell if it's brake fluid or oil) but not a lot by any means. The fluid isn't super clean though. Any thoughts on what might be going on? Only thing I haven't really tried is bleeding the clutch. Car is a 2G GSX, Shep Stage 4, PTT twin disk, Isuzu slave cylinder, NEO RHD fluid previously, I just changed to Amsoil 75-90 but it feels the same. |
Re: Clutch/tranny issues... maybe?
You might be able to adjust the pedal like on a 1g. Google it or go on youtube and type in clutch pedal adjustment. You should be able to find something.

Re: Clutch/tranny issues... maybe?
Sounds like a dragging clutch, try adjusting the pedal like Paul said
|
Re: Clutch/tranny issues... maybe?
I did. I adjusted it to the point that the cylinder was blocking the path to the reservoir and then backed it off slightly
Basically what the guys explains in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYJxQyjIhUw |
Re: Clutch/tranny issues... maybe?
Bleed it, air in the system can cause engagement/disengagement issue, because its not releasing fully.
Have someone step on the clutch and watch to see if the slave rod and fork moves enough |
Re: Clutch/tranny issues... maybe?
Try bleeding the system. you might have a weak slave or master cylinder.

Re: Clutch/tranny issues... maybe?
Mine did the same thing at the track never figured out why. My 2 step was at 6200rpm and as soon as I hit 6k it would start to move forward. I don't remember exactly what I did to fix it but I know I replaced a few things and it went away. But I solved the issue at the track by holding the e-brake.
I replaced the line master to slave braided line and also got an extended rod. Try bleeding it first though. That might be the issue |
Re: Clutch/tranny issues... maybe?
Alright, going to try bleeding it today. The only reason I didn't do it yesterday is because I didn't have a buddy :)
I'll report back... |
Re: Clutch/tranny issues... maybe?
I'll give you guys a few guesses as to what it was. And no, it has nothing to do with the slave/master. I will actually PayPal someone $25 if they can guess. If you're my Facebook friend you're automatically disqualified.

Re: Clutch/tranny issues... maybe?
tranny was pushing away from the block? Or other words the bolts were loose on the block. Either way glad you fixed it and it probably was a free easy fix since nothing is open today and by the sounds of it you got it fixed.
|
Re: Clutch/tranny issues... maybe?
Nice that you fixed it. But not sure other than maybe slave was loose? (not bolted down)
|
Re: Clutch/tranny issues... maybe?
All but 1 tranny bolt were COMPLETELY missing, thus causing the transmission to separate from the motor.
Whoever put it in last didn't use thread locker and probably didn't use a torque wrench either. I actually still haven't gotten it fixed as I ran out of time, but I grabbed a loaner car and will get it done tonight after work. |
Re: Clutch/tranny issues... maybe?
Glad its at least a cheap/easy fix.
I've never used thread locker on tranny bolts and never torqued them down to spec either. Just get them as tight as you can has been my torque value haha |

Re: Clutch/tranny issues... maybe?
Yeah I don't know if I'll be able to torque them all down since they're in such hard to reach places. The only thing is that the tranny is kind of clocked (probably resting on the dowels) so I'll need to loosen the motor mounts to be able to rotate it slightly (it's barely off, but enough to where a bolt won't thread).

Re: Clutch/tranny issues... maybe?
I bet one or both of your dowels have fallen out or broken off. This problem almost only happens when those are missing. With that many miles on a modded car, it can definitely happen.

Re: Clutch/tranny issues... maybe?
IF it's solid motor mounts, i guess I'd maybe blue loctite them.

The transmission has never shifted smoother than it does now. Like butter. I'm guessing that some of the bolts have been missing for a while now. Luckily nothing else seems to have been effected. To get the tranny clocked we undid the front engine/tranny mount and used a floor jack to get it where it needed to be. Thanks for the help guys! Much appreciated. Quote:

Re: Clutch/tranny issues... maybe?
Right on. But seriously let me know if you need anything I have a bad tranny laying around I can pull stuff off.
