Eclipse 420A problem

I have a friend with a '96 Eclipse RS, with a 420A. Recently, he started hearing what he says is a very loud knocking noise in the motor. Me, him, and another guy basically figured out what the problem is, and he is planning on rebuilding it. Anyway, is there anything he needs to know about rebuilding a 420A?
