Wireless Routers
Does anyone know anything about them?
Right now we have a linksys G router and it just does not have the range we need in our house. Its currently on the middle floor on the right side of the house and we dont get good if any signal on the bottom or top floor on the oposite side of the house. We are also not looking to spend a million dollars either. Thanks in advance |
Re: Wireless Routers
If you have a old school wrt54g you can flash custom software onto it that lets you increase the signal strength. It doesn't make a big difference, but it might be worth looking into.

Re: Wireless Routers
Get a wireless N router. It's in the top corner of my house and I have zero issues anywhere inside the house, garage, patio, or yard.

You can search for a wireless Extender that works with your router. They essentially work like a bridge and traffic is passed through the extender then to the router then out. |
Re: Wireless Routers
My way is free... i think you want openwrt, it might be ddwrt. Google "wrt54g custom firmware" and see if your hardware version is supported.

Re: Wireless Routers
Scheides is a huge proponent of the Apple Airports... Got a signal in his garage just fine last night off his, so I can't say I blame him.

Re: Wireless Routers
I bought one of these a couple months ago to replace my G netgear and its working great.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/NETGEAR+...&skuId=8998506 No need to spend more than 50-70 bucks on router. Best bet is to get a BG and N one, like I did. |
Re: Wireless Routers
I had several top-of-the-line linksys and other routers, even dual-band (N&G on separate channels) and they all pale in comparison to the signal I get from the Apple Airport Extreme that I just bought. I get faster throughput and better signal with it. They are spendy, but IMHO they are the one to get.

Re: Wireless Routers
I have a $50 N router, works bomb.
ON a side note, if you have multiple routers is there a way to link them to increase signal in your house. |
Re: Wireless Routers
I don't know what my neighbors have but it works great:score010:
P.s just kidding, I would never do that.... |

Re: Wireless Routers
oh and i was wrong about the N not being compatable. Appearantly it covers all of the other a/b/g standards as well.

Re: Wireless Routers
I have a D-Link DIR644 Gigabit Router, I get 30mps at my desktop and have seen up to 19mps at my laptop in a few rooms away. My neighbors laugh at me sometimes, they live 2 house down on the other side of my street and I can still get my wireless on my iphone.
Also for gaming on PS3 this router is sick, I always am host and generally beat up on most people. |
Re: Wireless Routers
Google DD-WRT and keep your wallet full.

Re: Wireless Routers
If you need more signal in one direction you can make a half circle tin foil/cardboard backing to help direct it!

Do you live in a concrete castle or something?
