91 Galant VR4 #597 Project redemption

This is my new Galant VR4 I picked up last week to get up and running as my new daily. It needs a turbo and the wiring fixed. Along with a hand full of other odds and ends. Tonight I fixed up the engine bay harness that was shortened by someone and when I did get the car home it would not start or run, but now it starts.

Its the green on the other side of the race car.

Its kind of weird to see them next to each other.

The turbo is bad, so I will be swapping that out starting tonight. And I am putting power steering back in the car, well the pump was never removed but the AWS was taken out, so I just need to cap the lines going to the back of the car.

Stock, not much to see here

I looked in the car today and found the factory limited edition key chain.

Some body messed with the engine bay harness a little to much.

They were doing it wrong.

I have a Eprom ECU I will use to tune the car. I am going to put the china evo 3 16g on the car and getting it driving around, then I will put some work into swapping on the mutt level 1 I put on the moon taxi, back in the day, and supporting mods to make a fun daily.

It also has the cyclone dual runner manifold on it now, I will do some thinking on if I can make it work like it should, that would help power under the curve a lot, something the moon taxi has none of, could be fun.

It also has a 4 bolt rear end and a 5 lug swap and a small FMIC with some OK piping. We will see how this comes together in the next week or so.

How'd you get it running? JUST curious.

ps: Where do you find all this motivation?

If you look at the pic of the engine bay with the wirering all layer out I cut out every spot you see red shrink tube as they were soldered together there. A few wires for the coil and transistor pack broke as I was stripping the e tape off. So I figure there were a few connections that were not good.

And as for motivation, I am not sure.

I will up date later with more pics and the long list I went threw to make this thing a good DD. kind of funny when I towed it home we had snow, and my test drive tomorrow will be in fresh snow. But the hole time working on it, we had no snow.

Looks cool John are you going to put a trailer hitch on the DD to tow the race car to the track?

So the long block ended up being just fine then? No HG issues?

So I drove it around a little tonight. The CAS stopped working after it was warmed up, so I swapped that out. There might be a lower end knock on #2 I will put a few more miles on it to see what else I will need to fix. And order some bearings I guess.

updates?

Re: 91 Galant VR4 #597 Project redemption

Time for a small update.

Long story short the motor was junk, rod knock and leaks all over, a lot of blow by shot rings and valve seals. The clutch slipped and just about everything bangs or rattles.

So it now has the backup motor, twin disk, and ems from the race car in it.

At wg pressure with a 16g we are at 210hp/220tq.

There will be some changes and a small list of things to make it a good DD.

I will run the 16g till it lets go then a bigger turbo and upgrade the fuel and IC setup.
