I know my car isnt a DSM but i think everybody knows much more then me on this topic since its universal. I just noticed the other day that whenever i play music I hear a crackling sound coming from the upper right speaker by the window (i have a chrysler sebring 98 lxi), i tweak with the bass, treble, etc but nothing seems to stop the crackling. What exactly dose it mean when the speaker starts crackling even to simple music (example: Coldplay - Clocks)? any info/advice would be much appreciated

Could you provide us with more information about your stereo: stock, aftermarket, ....?
Without knowing that it sounds like your speaker is toast. |
sorry, the Audio system is pure stock with a stock infinity amp
|
Sounds like the speaker is blown to me.

Yep anytime there is a cracking in a sound system, pretty much means that you listen to music too loud just like me. I just had the same problem with my 97 eclipse. The stocks are pretty cheap. Very easy to blow. But I could be wrong, but thats what I experinced.

Also, check all the grounds. I had a crackling noise and the problem was a simple fix. Tighten down the grounds and make sure they are not all nasty and corroded.

If it crackles all of the time (all volumes).
1 check the grounds, maybe but not likely, would be through all of the speakers 2 bad speaker. sorry but its blown. Time to upgrade to a nice set of components. |
520Talon has a great course of action. I have never hear of ground being loss and causing it to make ONE speaker crackle. Take out the speaker and make sure the terminals are connected. If they are then hope to the local audio store and buy some new speakers up, or online whichever you prefer. I would probably recommend Polk Audio. I just put a complete Polk Audio setup in my car and lets just say WOW. If you have any further questions drop me a line (AIM or email)
Dont forget to let us know how it turns out -Tim |
I forgot about this thread, did you make any progress with finding the problem? As far as a recommended replacement, Diamond Audio gets my support hands down.
