Engine Rod knock only during boost? Bad Turbo?
Im so puzzled. IDK if I have a cracked exhaust wheel or a bad knock only at boost, or a leak...
Just started a week ago under the same conditions, I have this chirping noise, weird noise coming ONLY from the driver side ONLY during 10psi + I ran the car to 5k rpms with no boost....no engine noise. I ran the car too 5k rpms with 10psi+ boost and the noise is there. When the car is running to temp. the noise happens ONLY. Not when cold or slightly warm. Turbo is 16G, Unknown/authentic? shaved compressor housing, 450cc injectors and stock fuel system @15psi, 3g lifters, 10w40 I do have belt noise that sounds like a rattling heat shield noticeable at low rpms things to check. shaft play/ turbo f-ups? Fix leak between downpipe, 02 housing today, still nothings changed from a week ago boost leak test I will Upload a video of the noise tonight... I dont care what the problem is, just hope its not the brand new 6 bolt motor!!!! |
Re: Engine Rod knock only during boost? Bad Turbo?
Have you checked the shaft play yet? I would do that right away. You don't want any shavings from the turbo making it down into your oil pan.
It shouldn't be rod knock. If it was rod knock it would knock in or out of boost at X rpm. |
Re: Engine Rod knock only during boost? Bad Turbo?
Thanks,
Shaft Play is the first thing I'm checking this evening! Turbo seems to keep the same performance during this noise Will Update progress soon |
Re: Engine Rod knock only during boost? Bad Turbo?
The turbo is still in great condition.... hmmm..
The rattling i believe to have fixed it now that I ripped of the stock downpipe heatshield (waiting on aftermarket downpipe) Fixed exhaust leak. Re-sealed the J-pipe with RTV, waiting to dry till tomorrow and see if anything has changed. Waiting on air compressor Still looking for ideas...will get video up if this doesn't fix it I will keep ya'll updated |
