My friend let me borrow his cheap spark plug gap tool. When I measured some brand new/uninstalled plugs that I have, it reads it as .025. I know they should be between .028 and .030. Is this tool that I have inaccurate, or is this the gap that comes from the factory?

My NGK's were at .025 i belive when i bought them.

Even If you buy plugs that are sapposed to be pre gapped you should still check and adjust If needed.

From my findings, most plugs are plus/minus .005 of .030. They get them close at the factory, but you always want to check/regap them before installation.

Always check them. Someone could have dropped them on the floor at the auto parts store. BTW, how much do they cost now? I may be able to get them through my work.

I alwasy check mine, but so far all of them have pretty much been .030 out of the box, on a side note, isn't it suggested you change them about once a year, I can't remember.

according to the Haynes manual, they are supposed to be replaced every two years. Mine usually get replaced every few months or sooner sometimes.
