I have been reading up on different places to mount an external gate, and would like to know the best place to mount it, coming from first hande experience. I just wonder if you mount it in the incorrect spot if it could cause boost creep, or some other problems. This of course would be on a 2G manifold. Thanks.

I was running my wastegate off the o2 housing and it was working just fine w/o any creep (35mm and 20G). It is deffinately the cheapest route to go. If you do some searching I believed I started a thread dealing with the o2 housing vs. exhaust manifold mounting of the wastegate a few months back.

Ok thanks. That's exactly what one of my routes were: 20G w/ external gate using QRPs o2 housing. Anyone here use a 20G with an internal gate?

Thanks guys.

The optimal place is in the exhaust manifold collector before the turbo, but it means a custom tubular one (SFP), but that is more expensive. The O2 housing one is nearly as good and much easier.

the HRC20G - was my old one. I had almost "0" issues with boost creep.
Every once and a while it would go up to a psi or 2 but nothing I'd worry about. -brian |

Ok, I have the o2 housing QPR made as a prototype. It works awsome. I haven't had any creep issues. You can ride with me for proof.
Ghettostyle (my brother) has a Hahn super 20g internally gated. It jumps 2psi and drops down to the designated boost level. Now he is having problems setting boost though. Not sure if is is something with the wastegate or not though. He has had problems for a little while now though. He may be selling that turbo setup though as he has a 60 trim to install though. I haven't had a chance to look at his boost problems yet though. If you are going over a 16g sized turbo, I would recommend a external wastegate or atleast have Mike hog the thing out for you. |
