Have a TomTom? Your speeding info has been sold to the police
TomTom has sold, as is still selling, user data to local government and authorities. Wow... This is really messed up.

Re: Have a TomTom? Your speeding info has been sold to the police
You know there are video cameras and mics with facial/body type recognition in digital TV boxes now as well?
About tomtom and such devices, I will NEVER ever get one. I have something like it on my cell phone (back home) and it's a crutch. I don't know if people forgot they had one, but we have these things in between our ears called brains. People had to use them in the past if they got lost. Some still do. |

I don't know how many people I've had to explain to how the street system works. It's a fucking standard, it never changes, there's no reason for people to not know this shit.

Re: Have a TomTom? Your speeding info has been sold to the police
So say you have a Tom-Tom, and you speed all the time, how exactly are the cops going to trace that back to you unless you registered the damn thing? Do you really think somebody is going to knock on your door some night and say "We know you have a tom-tom in the garage, here's your tickets"?
Beware, the government is now forcing McDonalds to put a digestible tracking device in every Big Mac. |

I'm not going to go up in arms over this as the reason for selling the information is valid in that it can pinpoint bad areas of roads. Also, he does seem to be against the idea of the police using it for speed traps.
I dunno. Its a wash for me. Good thing I don't have a Tom-Tom |
Re: Have a TomTom? Your speeding info has been sold to the police
I just bought a Garmin, it works a lot better than my cellphone. The cops can track me all they want.

"...they also use it to improve safety..." Read: use it to know where to place speed cameras and traps.
