91 Galant VR-4 "Slutty Paula"

I had a little impulse buy the other day and picked up this 1991 Galant VR-4. The kid that sold me the car told me it's name was Paula because that's the name of the hot mom he bought it from. I decided that "Slutty Paula" was more fitting since just about everybody and their mom has owned this car in the Fargo area.
It's number 708/2000

Like I said, the car has been around the block once or twice, so I'm not 100% sure what's all done to it, but I do know the following:
-New o2 sensors
-New timing belt
-New valves
-16g
-full exhaust

Like all dsms, there's a few things that need attention. First thing I noticed was the oil pooling in the vc well area. I took the vc off thinking that the gaskets just needed to be replaced and found a big crack :( I plan on tig welding it up tonight, shaving the vc, and powdercoating it.

Future plans:
-Change my sn to HiImBrian
-Research and fill my head with knowledge
-Throw it on a dyno to get a baseline

It feels good to get back to my dsm roots, and I look forward to whoring up style like back in the day :)

-Brian

lol. Ya he is. He told me the car needed only a fender and hood. And it the pics it looks alot worse. lol.

If your looking for parts, I was gonna go to the junkyard here to see if they still had the white Galant out there. I need some small interior stuff off it, but I could look for some parts for ya. I am headin that way shortly anyway so it wouldn't be a big deal.

Yea man, I'd probably take just about any white body panel they have haha. Part of me kinda likes the beat up look though. The car runs great and is fairly quick, so it kinda just adds to the sleeper status a little bit. I do want a passenger turn signal though so I don't get ticketed for that, so lmk if you find one.

I appreciate the honesty. And for the record...I'm not building a show car ;) Just something kinda fun to rock for a year-ish or so till I graduate. Who knows...maybe I'll take it back to its roots and rallycross it!

Re: 91 Galant VR-4 "Slutty Paula"

Thanks for the warm welcome back guys. It's nice to have something to have a car to work on and fix up again. I didn't get as far as I would have liked to tonight with the valve cover, but we did successfully weld the crack. The previous owner tried to seal the crack using rtv which not only didn't work, but also caused a ton of extra work for me cleaning the vc before we were able to weld the crack. The weld is nothing too pretty, but it covers the crack and hopefully will stop the oil leakage. I plan on sandblasting the vc at work on monday and powdercoating it myself.

And goodhart, I'd much rather get rid of all this "Mr." mumbo jumbo and stick with HiImBrian ;)

I tig welded up the crack and I think that should solve my leaky vc problem. I figured since the vc was off that I might as well powdercoat it too.

Re: 91 Galant VR-4 "Slutty Paula"

Thanks Brad.

Funny story: I went into Autozone here in Fargo to replace the pvc since mine was a little sticky and $4 later I was driving home with my new pcv valve. Once I got home I gave er the ol suck n blow only to find that it didn't have a good seal. Well, I don't need a crappy pcv, so I brough it back and the Fonzie lookin guy there basically thought I was an idiot for thinking that a pcv is a one-way valve. He figured since he could hear the little ball shake back and forth that it was good. Anyways, I was able to shoot some degreaser in my pcv and it works like a boss now. the end.
