Rx8 issue?

im thinkin of buying an 04 Rx8 i was told they have alot of seal failure witch causes the motor to melt down and fail and that using synthetic oil helps this? is this true what other issues do they have?

Another issue: They are slow as balls. I would find a mazda board and ask haha

The only RX I would buy would be an FC or and FD. RX8's are meh IMO. But like Goodhart said. Check a zoomzoom forum.

They handle nicely. Fun to drive I guess. Put some lawn mower oil in the gas. It'll be great then.

Pass...buy a S2000 instead if you want a fun high-revving car than can handle.

I was looking at one for a day before i realized I should just get an evo. They get crappy gas mileage and after googling them there is a ton of crappy reviews on them.

I'd go find a rx8 forum though and see if they have any good input.

A guy who lives a few blocks from me traded in a RX-8 for an Evo X.

oh thought maybe some one here would know a few pointers about them i did some research and it seems like the usa has epa mpg and makes them use 5w20 and that makes them blow up way faster than japan using 5w30

Re: Rx8 issue?

If you're set on one then thicker oil plus Mazda's special rotary premix oil would be a very smart idea.

Re: Rx8 issue?

Just get an FD. When that rotary takes a shit, swap in a V8.

Re: Rx8 issue?

RX8s handle great and look good. I would be wary buying one without any maintenance records or some sort of warranty. I can put you in contact with a husband and wife who autocross a stock RX8 and have had their fair share of issues with it, were it not for the warranty they'd be out a lot of money.

The P0420 is a catalyst efficiency code. It could be a rear O2 sensor, converter or it may need a new ecu reflash. Its still covered under the emissions warranty if its under 80,000 miles so you can just bring it in and get it checked out.

Re: Rx8 issue?

The nice thing about them though is they are cheap as shit. It's a good looking car for the money, but it'd be damn awesome with an LS6 in it.

Shouldn't be unless they've extended the time. Warranties expire on which ever comes first, the time from the "in service" date, or the mileage.
