Bought A new laptop-What are your guys' thoughts?
Well, after about 4 years my MacBook Pro died on me again. I'm pretty sure another motherboard went out. But anyway, with being in the middle of the semester and overall needing a computer I had to make a quick decision on a laptop. I looked online for a while and nothing really stood out to be more desirable than the other. So two trips to Best Buy and I walked out with this.
Keep in mind, I wanted something that was aesthetically similar to my MacBook and felt similar to it as well. I looked at every single laptop there and the only one that really stood out to be the clear choice (At least to me) http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/l...NP-QX410-S02US So far I really like it. It's lighter, smaller and quieter than my MacBook, and was almost less than a 1/3rd of the Mac. $885 with a 3 person, 1 year Norton subscription. I'm sure some of you will say I could have gotten "this computer for that money", but the bottom line is that I have homework that's due Monday and homework I missed because I have been without a laptop. I just needed one. Thoughts, complaints, suggestions. All are welcome! |

Looks nice. I've got a Toshiba that I picked up for my home box, love it. And I just got a super thin Sony Vaio for a work lappy, really small, should work even better for tuning this summer.

I'd like to get something a little less expensive for tuning. I'm wondering if a beefed up netbook would be enough to run ECMLink.

Specs are pretty good. Similar to my toshiba laptop but with a slightly better graphics card. enough memory, decently fast. 4gb ram is pretty much good enough for any daily school stuff. That computer is pretty good for alot of stuff and it's about right for the price you bought it for. I bought my Toshiba laptop in April of 2008 for roughly that price and it still runs extremely well...excluding the stupid lcd screen flickering on me at times but it does the job.

Should do the trick. Currently my work gave me a Lenovo. Which replaced my HP.
After the problems i had with my HP i have some new things to look for when buying a laptop. Mainly (besides the specs of course) is the hinges and construction of the laptop. The hinges on my hp have broken 3 times now. and ive had it. The lenovo however looks like it has pretty sturdy hinges. The harddrive died but i just put that aside and threw in the hd from my hp and it worked great. |

Looks decent but I'd miss OSX for a daily machine. For the money that's pretty damn good bang for your buck though!
What are the specs on the macbook that died? My company does hardware repair, as does this guy: http://mitsustyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28695. |

I used an ASUS Eee PC Netbook for running my ECMLink V3. Worked awesome.

I also miss OSX, but I have to say I have been more than happy with the Samsung. I'm pretty sure the MB went out on it again. It happened last year, but fortunately my Apple Care was still active. But now that it's expired I had a hard time justifying putting money in to a computer that may break a year from then. Tom, my GF's HP DV-61355-DX has had numerous hardware and software problems within the year or so she's owned it. W7 crashed on her, her HD went to shit and now her charging port is on it's way out. So when I was looking for a new laptop I didn't even consider an HP. |

i bought my IBM as a refurb direct from their website for something like $210 shipped to my door. For internet and basic stuff it has been great for almost 2yrs now.
