Another new FP Evo turbo??
Just saw this on EvolutionM. No details yet, but here is their description:
FP 71HTA™ for the Mitsubishi Evolution 9 We are now offering an FP 71HTA™ turbocharger exchange upgrade for the Evolution 9 cars. Send in either your complete stock Evo 9 turbocharger or the CHRA w/ Compressor cover in exchange for the FP 71HTA™ Turbocharger. Cost for this exchange is $650.00 and these turbos are in stock and ready to go! If you send in your complete turbo, we will swap your exhaust housing onto the CHRA w/ Compressor Cover exchange unit and ship you back your complete turbocharger ready to install. http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...=Turbo-Upgrade http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...VO71HTA_01.jpg http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...VO71HTA_05.jpg http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...VO71HTA_08.jpg Thread: http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-eng...-fp-71hta.html Seeing as how the HTA Green is a 73HTA, I'm thinking this must be a billet stock turbo? I thought that was already the fp white? lol I guess we'll know more soon :D |
Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
The White is a 68HTA. It uses a stock-size turbine wheel, but maybe its redesigned unlike the White which reuses the stock wheel?
|
Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
Interesting, very interesting.
Could be a great turbo. |
Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
maybe this is something to go between the white and green then??
|
Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
Damn, I was hoping for something just a bit bigger than a black. :D
|
Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
I was very happy with my white on my 2.3. This should be a decent turbo

Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
This was posted in the EvoM thread today, no other word yet from FP.

Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
So it uses the stock turbine wheel since they say they'll swap them on ready to go, must be basically a stock-spooling turbo (slower than the white, faster than the green) but still 51lbs/min. Goddamn how many turbos do they need!?? The best thing though is the price, that is a great deal for what is probably a good 30whp upgrade, prolly enough to make 335-345whp on pump and 380-390whp or so on e85. Seriously not bad for $650, that's about the price of a set of cams!

Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
If your turbo already needs a rebuild anyways, than it's a sweet deal for sure.

Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
Since Robert @ FP apparently quit posting on forums, I've been stalking his facebook periodically for updates and he posted some today. Here's what he says:
Dyno sheet: http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._8040948_n.jpg "mod list": it's my personal EVO9, so its pretty much got everything on it. 2.3, 4R cams, ported intake manifold, built moda, big FMIC, fuzzy dice on the rearview, whole nine yards....stock exh manifold, unported stock EVO9 turbine housing with a HP actuator. Other stuff: its not maxed, that was only 151krpm on the turbo, it's not overerspeeding until it gets to 157krpm. Yeah, its my car so yes its not a short stroke budget motor, all my knobs are at 11 24/7 ;) Not making a new color designation for this turbo, not going to build them as New Turbos either, just cheap core swap basis, something for the budgetarily challenged projects out there. We can do this unit for $650 exchange :D went ahead and built up a batch of 15 for the shelf so whenever people send in cores, we can ship same day. I kind of just made cliff notes there of the important parts so non facespacer's (scheides lol) could see the meat of the conversation. For the rest of you, here's a link to it: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/p...&id=1272700148 EDIT: He just posted his real mod list for those interested: 100mm MMC crankshaft Ross 9:1 pistons FP4R cams FP beehive springs ported stock intake manifold stock exh manifold Buschur FMIC full 3" exhaust system exedy twin ceramic clutch with push conversion |
Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
Pretty sure this is the same car with the 73HTA Green on it (don't quote me though) Maybe some overlay action scheides? ;)

Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
Did my best:
http://scheides.com/misc/pics/evo/ov..._HTA-Green.jpg Looks like the bigger turbine wheel and comp wheel really do work on the green! For the money though, tough to beat! |
Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
Hmm... dependning on if the great state of MN takes my state refund from me this will be on my car :D
|
Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
Interesting thing about a swap like this is, you could do like when I upgraded my 05 (10.5 hotside) evo8 turbo to the IX turbo...leave exhaust mani, turbine housing, o2 housing, and downpipe all in place and just yank the CHRA and compressor cover out of the car. The whole swap took like 2 hours, it was pretty painless.
This doesn't seem like a huge upgrade but it'd would be verrrrry interesting to see what it does on a local car! edit: although, for my money I might consider the BBK Lite; its the same concept: just an upgraded compressor wheel. Not sure what the price is but worth investigating...real world they would probably perform very very similar to each other! |
Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
This will be on my car in a few months so we'll get to see plenty of numbers base on it. I was going to get a white, but this turbo is pretty badass.

Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
hmmm, i'd like to see an EF1 against that.
|
Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
^^I'd like to see more about the EF1. ;)
|
Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
That's good power!
|
Re: Another new FP Evo turbo??
Its decent, torque/boost comes on a little late for the power.
However, very very impressive powerband. |
