looking for a chumpcar driver...
My team, Slugworks, is looking for a driver for this season of Chumpcar (www.chumpcar.com, budget wheel-to-wheel road course racing, $500 cars, similar to Lemons). We have a fully prepped 1990 Honda Civic sedan that should be very competitive this year.
We are looking for someone to do as many events as possible, potentially just be a permanent member of the team. The deal we have been giving people, is that if you come and work on the car with us, then you won't have to pay as much. If not, we just ask the going rate for a seat at the races. Racing experience of any sort is a plus, but having a good attitude, meshing well with the team, and having fun are really what we're about. Last year all of us started with no wheel-to-wheel experience, and only a bit of autoX/rallyX experience. Chumpcar is a great place to start. Also some wrenching experience is good. What am I saying? This is a DSM forum, you're all experts :) Single-cam Hondas are way easier to work on. Anyway, you do need some gear to race. You need a SNELL SA rated helmet, multi-layer fire suit/gloves/shoes/socks. It can be pricey, so factor that into it. The expenses to race will be in the order of 300-400 per race, which includes race entry, gas, tires, brake pads and all the expendibles. Likely hotel accomodations as well, details will be secured as we go along. If you want to know more about the rules: http://www.chumpcar.com/rules_fees.php The events we plan on attending (subject to change): 26-27 March 2011 Road America (Elkhart Lake, WI) Greater Sheboygan Festival of Loons 30 April - 1 May 2011 Iowa Speedway (Newton, IA) The Right of Spring 24 (or is that Left?) 4-5 June 2011 Brainerd Int'l Raceway (Brainerd, MN) The Land of 10,000 Breaks Double-7 and if we qualify... 3-5 September 2011 Iowa Speedway (Newton, IA) The 2011 ChumpCar National Chumpionship if not, we will be going to: 22-23 October 2011 Hallett Motor Racing Circuit (Jennings, OK) Redemption at the OK Corral Anyway, I'm opening this invite up to this forum first, as everyone I've met from here is pretty cool and there seems to be interest in racing. Chump car is very cheap seat time (all the races are either dual 7-hour enduros, 14 hours or 24 hours) and a complete blast. We will probably only bring the minimum of 4 drivers + a couple crew to all the races to maximize seat time. Seriously some of the most fun I've ever had. If you're competitive and like driving, wheel to wheel racing is where its at. PM me with interest and we can go from there! -Paul Kruse |
Re: looking for a chumpcar driver...
I'm only going to Road America, one race at BIR (need to confirm which one) and the Chumpionship at Iowa with Team Shake and Bake so I'm open for anything else. Let me know what I'd be expecting to pay per race.

Re: looking for a chumpcar driver...
Sorry about the late notice, but there is a happy-hour get together for local Chump Car folks in bloomington today. My team will be there, you can come and find out more about the nitty gritties of racing in Chump Car. There might even be a few cars there!
Copy and paste from another forum: Interested in road racing? Chump Car is a great way to get seat time for not a lot of $$$. Come stop by and talk to other chumps and get info on what it is all about. 24 hour of lemons teams are welcome too. Maybe we can convert you... Videos from past events will be showing. When: Saturday, January 29th Location: Poor Richards Commonhouse (Hwys 494 & 100) - In the Backroom http://www.poorrichardscommonhouse.com/ Time: 6PM to 10:30 PM (then they bring in a DJ, a batch of divorced 40+ somethings and things rapidly deteriorate) They serve food so belly up for a nice burger before the beer arrives. Everyone is on their own for food and drinks. |

Ugh, such a busy day already. :(

Re: looking for a chumpcar driver...
Bummer, it was a good time. Great turnout, I think 11 teams were represented!

Re: looking for a chumpcar driver...
I'm thinking of getting into this to get road racing experience. However, I'm in Iowa and would like to find a team down here. Do you know of any teams in Iowa that might be looking for another driver?

Re: looking for a chumpcar driver...
I know of one, let me put a message thru the grapevine and see if they need drivers. They have an old camaro or T/A, I believe.
And good idea. You will find no cheaper way to get road racing experience, while still being competitive and a lot of fun. |

If they ask, I don't really have much racing experience besides a few autocrosses and the novice school. I would gladly help wrench on the car, too. |
Re: looking for a chumpcar driver...
Team I knew about has enough drivers, unfortunately.

Re: looking for a chumpcar driver...
Andrew, check out the Chump Car forum and post up you're looking to join a team in the Iowa area. You're in a good spot, lots of tracks that hold Chump Car events around you in nearly every direction.

Re: looking for a chumpcar driver...
oh man, I hate snow. Is racing season here yet? I can't stand staring at the chumpcar on stands anymore. Still a lot of work ahead though.
