Hardly any boost

Hey I've had my car for about a month now. I have noticed that when free revved it hardly boosts at all and my bov won't purge (if that is the right word) anything until about like 5500rpms. Any suggustions or questions to help me figure this out, just post them up.

Thanks Guys

Turbos don't build boost without load. If you are just revving the engine then don't expect anything.

Ok when I drive it takes longer too. Even someone that knows a lot about these cars said it was odd.

Start doing the typical checks. Boost leak test, look for exhaust leaks, check your turbo for shaft play and make sure it spins freely, etc.

Free revving in neutral won't build much boost, that's pretty normal. When in boost, at what RPM do you hit full boost? Is this a stock T25 still? Some more info on the car might help.

Its a gay ebay 16g (hopefully getting an mhi soon) but the gauge is still moving at like 6500rpm.

That may be your answer right there. You're not monitoring boost by the stock gauge though are you? The stock boost gauges in DSM's are crap and they don't even really measure boost.

If it is spooling slower than it should and the shaftplay is ok, then I would start looking for pre-turbo exhaust gaskets. (head>mani, mani>turbo)

I haven't gotten a 3 gauge pod yet or aftermarket boost gauge for that matter, should be coming soon though. But shaftplay is really good...like none at all. But you are right egay ftl, but I wasn't the one to put it in ha. It still is pretty quick for basically stock I just think there are some kinks that need to be worked out.

If you are using the stock boost gauge as a way to determine what boost you're hitting then you need to take a step back and think about what you're doing. An aftermarket boost gauge isn't for show, it's a tool to help you understand what your car is doing. Get that installed then report back with what's going on.

At what rpm are you hitting full boost at? You should be able to feel that. And get a boost gauge on there so you can see whats going on better. The stock gauge isn't all that useful.

Re: Hardly any boost

The stock boost gauge does not show real boost. The car has no idea what boost it is running, the stock boost gauge is just some bullshit they made up based off of airflow. It's one of the stupidest gauges ever on any car.
