Thinking about switching my Media Server...

So i was pondering some of the performance issue i have had with my media server. (Currently Windows Home Server).
I usually Store/Stream using this server to the PS3 and my other windows computers (7 and Vista Ult). But sometimes have issues with it freezing for a couple seconds at which time i have to quick exit the movie, and go back in otherwise bad things happen. I originally thought it was because the PS3 was running wirelessly, but after running an Ethernet Cable from downstairs up to the router, i realised that wasnt the issue.
Im pretty sure now that it is a Memory issue, but im not sure of this as the only thing running on this server is the OS and the PS3 Media Server.
So I am pondering changing my server from Windows Home Server to Ubuntu 10.10 with PS3 Media server, hopeing that the Ubuntu 10.10 is a bit lighter weight memory wise and will just continue to cruise along serving up my media without issue. (This computer is not used by anyone in the family besides me, not even connected to a keyboard or mouse, just serving media thats it.)
What do you guys think? Anyone running Ubuntu 10.10 right now?

It's either memory or the processor, I would go with memory. When was the last time you cleaned out the computer? I coulde be overheating. Unbuntu would work but it might be difficult to get windows computers to network to it, windows to windows is usually pretty easy compared to mac or anything else to windows.

What version of Windows are you running exactly? I have a handful of friends all running Windows 7 Media Center and none experience problems that you describe. I've ran Vista Media Center myself and it's never locked up either.

Windows Home Server is the OS. It has a Windows Server 2003 backbone. It handles the backups of my computers, and media serving. Thats all.

Oh, forgot about Home Server, I was thinking Media Center the entire time. IMO, I'd get Windows 7 Media Center on there and see how it goes.
