can i block this?(turbo)
alright ive seen this on a few talons in my area. now i still some what new to the whole turbo scene. so please no hate if this is stupid:) but the one port in the very center. ive seen it blocked but i dont even know where it goes to? it would be pointed towards the radiator and heres a picture
(this is a small 16g) http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/m...r/IMG_0310.jpg thanks for the help |
Re: can i block this?(turbo)
That's a coolant line port. I feel like that's the one that goes to the big water pipe that runs along the front of the block.
I've heard of people running water cooled turbos without water lines hooked up before. Some say it's fine, others say it's bloody murder. I personally wouldn't run it without the water lines. If it was designed to be water cooled, I'd personally run water lines. |
Re: can i block this?(turbo)
i would like to run it. but can i buy an aftermarket line? and where does it go to off that? my cars waiting on this:( so close yet so far away

Re: can i block this?(turbo)
find someone parting out a car and buy the lines. Is there a line coming off the backside, 180* out, from that one? You should have a total of 4 lines. Oil lines (1 on top, 1 on bottom). Coolant lines (1 on front, 1 on back).

Re: can i block this?(turbo)
yeah the only one im missing is the one on the front. does it go down to the oil cooler?

Re: can i block this?(turbo)
I thought that one went to the big water pipe on the front of the block. And the one on the backside went to the thermo housing. It's been awhile, so i don't remember exactly.

Re: can i block this?(turbo)
i wish i knew someone with a completely stock car haha. but thank you!

Re: can i block this?(turbo)
Halon is correct. That front hole is for a coolant line that comes off the waterpipe. The one in the back goes to a port on the thermostat housing. I have always ran coolant through 16g's but on my colt I just ran oil through it since it was a budget project and I couldnt find my old lines. Turbo held up fine, but I would definatly recommend running coolant through it.

Re: can i block this?(turbo)
to op. if you run the line behind the hole that you are going to plug, then you'll have to get a water line for it. it's basically water line in and out. if you pluged that hole i suggest you plug the hole behind it too.
the down and upper hole is for oil cool and both the back and front are for water coolant. the front hole goes down under and back of the turbo to the coolant pipe. the coolant pipe is big and silver about the size of a half dollar size in diameter running to the water pump in front of the block. you cant miss it. the coolant pipe should have a tube stick out for that line to front of turbo. connect the hole in front of turbo to that tube stick. correct me if i'm wrong. if i were you, i'd run the watercool lines. that's how they were invented anyways. hope this helps |
Re: can i block this?(turbo)
Yeah, you can run it without them, but like the post above me, you need to block the the other line from the therm housing as well. It'd be a lot easier to just add the missing coolant line, I'm sure Mitsu can get it for you in a few days.

Re: can i block this?(turbo)
im ending up buying both front and back(i only need front) for 30 bucks off some guy parting his car out:) pretty stoked on that so ill end up running both oil and water for it. thanks for all the help everyone! hopefully my car will actaully make it to the road now

Re: can i block this?(turbo)
I brought the turbo to ace hardware, matched the coolant fittings with barbed on one end for the coolant and ran rubber hose that was meant for coolant, along with hose clamps on the barbed section. it allows for flexibility and easier to manuever IMO. When I upgraded from a 11b to a 16g the lines didnt match up. I hope that helps, If I did it wrong someone please tell me.
