Advice on Shipping a Shortblock
I've had some not-so-local people interested in my shortblock I have for sale. Wondering if anyone has advice as to shipping this.
I've seen advice such as "use a freight service", "put it on a pallet", etc. But in the end I'm still lost. I don't know who a freight service is. I don't have a pallet so is this something that I can usually get at wherever this freight place is? How do you secure it to the pallet? I want to try and sell it, and there are non-local people interested but I'm just stuck on how to get it there. I don't have a pallet at home, I don't have any sort of strapping stuff to secure it, I really have no clue what to do here and looking for some advice, or some help, anything!!! Do you lust lay it on the oil pan on the pallet and the oil pan holds the weight of everything? Ha, I'm obviously a bit lost with this, so please HALP! Let me know if anyone can help. |
Re: Advice on Shipping a Shortblock
Bring it to MAP and pay them to ship it; I'm sure they have plenty of experience with all the built engines they sell.

Re: Advice on Shipping a Shortblock
A freight service is the same place you are dealing with to ship your new toy..
Basically, need a pallet, most likely wrap it in heavy duty plastic wrap at the very least/would be preferred to box it or crate it, then strap it down securely to the pallet, make a "To" and "From" sheet to tape to the outside(under some wrap), talk to shipper and fill out their paperwork(simple stuff), have it picked up/loaded from a dock or any place with a fork lift. |
Re: Advice on Shipping a Shortblock
I sold my built longblock to a guy in Hawaii about a year and a half ago. I drained the oil out of it, wrapped it in a few construction garbage bags, placed it on the palet, secured it with large pallet zip ties, used pallet wrap around it several times to ensure it was secure and used more pallet zip ties to be sure.
The buyer had the shipping arrangements made so I didn't need to do that part. I know a viper guy whose business is shipping items that are on pallets. I could get you his name if needed. |
Re: Advice on Shipping a Shortblock
I have shipped motors by making a wooden frame just larger then the motor out of 2x2 or something similar and then using heavy duty staples to cover it all around with heavy duty cardboard and leaving 2 openings for handles on the sides. That was to ship a motor to Australia I think it was.

Re: Advice on Shipping a Shortblock
MAP has quoted me appx 350 to get it to Mississippi. So I might just go that route.
Thanks for the advice everyone. |
Re: Advice on Shipping a Shortblock
I use forward air. to ship engines and used them to ship my extra evo 3 front clip. I sent craigs long block to NY and it was 150.00 for the freight.
