I have seen it on DSMTuners,But I still have to ask. Any of you guys running an Holset turbo?
Im in the works of removing my Mitsu 20G and install an HX40W along with my fully build block and head. Just wondering if anybody here is using it and how happy they are with it.thanks.

Only 2 guys I know of on here that have run Holset's are Aaron (TurboTalon1g) and Kevin (SleepyDSM). Maybe you could PM them.

Sleepy went through like 3 (?) turbos on his car, the oil drain line needs to be massive on these (apparently). Still, decent power on E85, not sure how they do on pump gas tho.

I have the Holset HX40W and I have a 42R 50trim garret, Im still not sure on what turbo to run on my new set up. Not planning to run E85. I will be on C16 Race gas.

Re: Holset Turbo HX40W Input

I blew up 2 brand new HX40's until I realized I should probably follow the manufacturer's specs for the drain tube. With a proper drain tube, I have had no issues. I feel like for the size of the turbo, the cost at a used one can be had for, they are great, quick spooling journal bearing turbos. I am very happy with mine now. Using the small Mitsu bolt on housing, a 7.8:1 compression stock 6 bolt, I made peak of 460awhp at DB at 30psi, running out of fuel pump. I think that calculates to roughly 530whp on a dynojet

Re: Holset Turbo HX40W Input

The drain tube must be 19mm ID minimum (Might have been 16mm, cant quite remember). So your basically looking at a 1" drain line.. You also must have 10psi of oil pressure at the turbo at idle, 30psi during spool-up and no more then 80psi WOT. Follow those specs and your Holset will last forever.

Re: Holset Turbo HX40W Input

19mm is 3/4" which is the recommended min ID for holset drain lines.

Re: Holset Turbo HX40W Input

^Thanks for confirming. I would just go with a 1" drain line to be safe. Haha

Re: Holset Turbo HX40W Input

Good luck fitting a 1" ID line, fitting a 3/4" is more fun than it might look, and requires oil pan modification...

I was being sarcastic about a 1" drain line. :)
