Single Turbo vs. Twin Turbo
This may be the stupidest question ever but if a twin turbo engine is tuned to lets say 14psi and a single turbo engine is tuned to 14psi. Would that be like tuning the single turbo engine to 28psi to match the performance? If someone could explain how that works it would be greatly appreciated.

Than explain, I don't get it. Sorry I'm car stupid, but at least I know a shit ton more from when I first got my car. But is it a legit question or am I just super retarded?

Gotta start somewhere. It's not a legit question because it's not really that specific of a question. It is sort of retarded lol. but hey, like i said, you gotta start somewhere. In the automotive world twin/single turbo has it's pros/cons depending on your build/application BUT having a 1g DSM at 14psi compared to a Supra TT @ 14psi is totally different from an Evo @ 28 psi.

14psi is 14psi, but 600cfm of air at 14psi is going to make more power than 400cfm of air at 14psi. That's how you need to look at it.

It also makes a difference whether the TT set-up is Sequential or Parallel.

14psi on 2 turbos is the same as 14psi on 1 turbo, the differences are from how well the air flows into and out of the engine, that cfm thing. There's a whole bucket full of reasons to do TT vs single and vise versa. Some of the common reasons are the fact that twin turbo setups on like a V6, you can use 2 small cheap turbos and make good power, have a short route to the turbos, and twins tend to spool up faster than a comparable single. Problems though are twice the pluming, and twice as many moving parts that can fail or leak. And probably the most important reason is the logistics of making it all fit, usually the reason to do one or the other in the first place. |
