Test drove my first Evo today
Alright I test drove my very first Evo today. Holy crap I felt like a total noob driving it, let me explain...
I've been driving my '91 Eagle Talon TSI for like 5 years or so. I'm used to the way the clutch feels and how it engages (ACT26000, kind of a hard pedal feel, engages almost right away when you let it go a bit). I've never really driven any other manual car. When I drove this Evo, I had a hard time feeling the clutch. Clutch felt really soft compared to the one on my DSM and you really had to let go of the pedal before it engages, or at least in my opinion it does. Man that was embarrassing, luckily I didn't stall it. The owner must have been like, are you sure you know how to drive a stick?, lol. Man now I'm scared to go look at other cars now. I feel like I have to re-learn how to drive a manual car because I'm only used to driving mine. |
Re: Test drove my first Evo today
Every car is different, especially with aftermarket clutches. Takes a few starts to figure out the engagement point and you can't be asleep at the wheel.

So this is normal then? because if it's not I felt like a total noob. Sounded like I was trying to rev his engine and I wasn't. I couldn't find out when the clutch engages. I felt stupid, that's all.

Re: Test drove my first Evo today
Once you get used to it a light clutch pedal is very nice since you can be so precise in your action with it. Go from an Evo with a stock clutch into a DSM with a 2600 and you'll realize how silly such a heavy pedal is.

I've never driven a 2G 2600 (that I can clearly remember), but the Evo HDSS (2900?) is far lighter than the 1G 2600.

Re: Test drove my first Evo today
My 2G pedal was super light with the 2600, but I also hadn't removed the restrictor pill.
My Evo, which I assume has the pill removed already based on how it feels, is much heavier with what I've been told is a stock clutch. So I dunno, I'm seeing the reverse. |

Re: Test drove my first Evo today
As mentioned already, every car will have a different clutch feel. You could drive five different Evos and every one of them will feel a little different. Between adjustments in engagement points, aftermarket clutches and wear and tear, every car is a little unique in its clutch feel.
Just get out there and drive a few more sticks and you'll know what we mean. have fun, Curt |
