Black Smoke
Ok so basically I got black smoke coming out my exhaust and my car seems to studder kind of, any idea's (yes I know I sound retarded in the video) but let me know what it could possibly be. Shitty cell phone video quality sorry, just started seeing it and that was all I had.

Re: Black Smoke
I would say it is running rich and that is excess fuel burning which would lead to black looking smoke. What are your mods and do you have a boost gauge and a wideband?
|
Re: Black Smoke
Black smoke is either burning oil or running rich, burning oil could be a number of things, running rich could be fixed quite easily.
|
Re: Black Smoke
Oil is blue not black. I would guess you developed a boost leak and now you're running rich. Especially since your getting a studder. Do a boost leak test.

Re: Black Smoke
Alright a put different gas in it today from a different station, and now it runs just fine. I always put 91 in so I don't know why different gas stations make my car run differently. Oh well at least it's better now.
|
Re: Black Smoke
cause there is different qualities of gas. i've read a few threads around the forums on it.

Re: Black Smoke
There is a gas station just down from my place that always seems to have shitty gas. I noticed it with my Subaru, and now i fill at a different place. No i'll affects yet with all three of my cars that i fill there.

Re: Black Smoke
Ok bringing this back up, its happening again with the same gas that "fixed it", this time it's doing the black smoke but also sounds like 2 step if it builds boost but im rolling, and if i break boost and let off, it like click-chirps, i don't know if that sound is my brakes or the turbo. If anyone from around my area could maybe come check it out, it would help a ton.

Re: Black Smoke
DO A BOOST LEAK TEST!
|
Re: Black Smoke
black smoke usually means the engine is running rich, boost leak test would be a great place to start
|
Re: Black Smoke
Anyone want to come and do that, I don't have the stuff for it
|
Re: Black Smoke
it is very easy to make a homemade tester. i believe there is something on here, but if not google "how to make boost leak tester" there are step by step instructions somewhere. Its easy, and essential when having a dsm. (especially when doing after market stuff) i think mine cost me like $3

Re: Black Smoke
If your too lazy to make a tester... just check the hoses for one thats oily, as if it were leaking at the coupler... If you still have the stock side mount, check the upper IC pipe for holes where the hose goes on there, almost every 1g I see now the upper pipe on the IC is swiss cheesed.

Re: Black Smoke
