Car puffing out white/blue smoke at idle
Well today after I got off of work I noticed my car was smoking pruty good when I was on the off ramp. When I got home I let it idle for awile in the drive way and it was just puffing out white/blue smoke. If I rev it to 2k it starts puffing out alot of smoke. Any ideas? I know it could be a valve seal or a craked valve guide or the turbo seal is blown But it makes boost so I dont think its the turbo...the egr valve Is blocked off by a block off plate so it isnt that. I checked the vent tube on the valve cover and thats clean

Re: Car puffing out white/blue smoke at idle
If i remember right white smoke is antifreeze burning and blue smoke is oil. Possible head gasket? I cant think of anything else that would be bad that would emit both of those.

Does the car still go into boost? could be the turbo seals blown.

Re: Car puffing out white/blue smoke at idle
turbo still makes boost and it hasnt over heated. I dont have a egr valve and it smells like fresh oil out of the exhaust. Im thing its a valve stem seal leaking of a valve guide craked any other ideas?

Re: Car puffing out white/blue smoke at idle
my money is on the valve seals with the blue smoke...b/c that's my current issue.

Re: Car puffing out white/blue smoke at idle
How do I rule out all the other things it could be before I tare into the motor? I checked the turbo and it has very minimal shaft play. The coolant looks brand new and it hasnt over heated. Are the valve seals comon on the 4g63 motors? Could I still drive the car like this if I had too?
Thanks 409/2000 :drive1: |
Re: Car puffing out white/blue smoke at idle
Check the exhaust side of the turbo and look for oil. Should be able to rule that out fairly easily.
