Oil pump woes, questions
So i tore apart my sweet car last night after a month of sitting.
Cams were way off, it ripped the teeth off the T-belt at the crank. Anywho, the oil pump would not turn is there anyway this would be caused by sitting, the car has sat for 7 years. Turning the crank was very difficult also, I pulled the cams before turning the crank. |
Re: Oil pump woes, questions
After 7 years of sitting I wouldn't be surprised if the internals were all rusted. With all the valves closed you are trying to fight against compression to turn the crank over by hand.

^thanks man, trying to figure this thing out.

Re: Oil pump woes, questions
Does it turn easily with the spark plugs removed?

Re: Oil pump woes, questions
It should turn easily, I'd at a very minimum put a brand new front cover and oil pump on it. I won't ever mess with new gears and a used front cover ever again. I also just installed a turned down balance shaft that I got from John just for extra insurance against seizing oil pumps. It's happened to me and almost everybody I know at some point.

Re: Oil pump woes, questions
^Thx, I might look into getting this motor back together/running again.

Re: Oil pump woes, questions
Mine seized up if you remember my thread about it being hard to turn. Get a new front case, gears and oil pump is the only way to go.

^How much did that run?

Re: Oil pump woes, questions
I bought a used one from Mike at Primo so I couldn't tell you. I know MAP carries them. They also have ITM front cases which seem to be a good quality piece.

Re: Oil pump woes, questions
I won't buy used any more. A new front case is about $220 with the club discount at Brookdale Mitsu.
