Fathouse's epic garage build: 10.0@150mph

This guy is not afraid to push the limit and has had great success with the stock bottom-end and now a built-bottom end. He is an insane fabricator and can obviously tune pretty well on his own. Tons and tons of respect for a build like this and a guy like this. Vids at the bottom.

Last year around this time, the car was my daily driver, running low 10's on stock engine/head/ecu/maf, 35r kit I built, fp4r cams, 3" exhaust, e85 ect. Nice fun setup for sure. Mid summer I was racing the car at a event here in town, and the shaft on the 35r broke in half during a pass. Talk about a loud smokey mess!

I got a bad case of "while your in there" And decided to build a whole new turbo kit, port the head, and do drop ins, I bought a 6262, crower rods, and weisco1400hd pistons and got to work.

Here is a link to the 6262 kit I built.

http://forums.evolutionm.net/welding...it-my-car.html

I got everything up and running, and it hammered a rod bearing out in about 40 miles. Not sure why really, but I guess **** happens and thats how you learn. I sold the 6262 setup to a good friend of mine and took a break from the car for a while before I set it on fire.

After a break, I pulled the engine and went back to work, the crank was ruined, so I picked up a manley crank, Crower (GREAT customer support btw!) recond all 4 rods and sent new bolts. I had a local engine builder do the machine work/assbly this time. Everything turned out great, and the ptw clearance worked out well after a fresh hone to resuse the std bore weiscos.

The setup is now, fresh shortblock, same ported head, fp5r cams, kiggly springs, map head studs, billet 6765. I plan to stay e85 and stock ecu. I am in the middle of building a new turbo kit for this one, foward facing this time. They are just to baller not to have one. {thumbup}

I had my man Ron Shearer send me one of his garret based 4.5" fmic. I added the mounting tabs where I needed. Thanks Ronny!

Sorry if this does not make alot of sense, I will just post alot of pics now. :)

*note* the turbo kit in some of the pics is a friend setup I was just borrowing to break in my engine.

Somewhere in here, he started having problems with his stock ECU. He was running Speed Density w/o a IAT sensor fine for a while, but on this build it just wouldn't run right. He tried the ecu in a buddy's car and it ran fine, I double checked the ROM and couldn't find anything goofy. I was going to send him a base rom to try, but before I could, he had an AEM in the car and posted this:

Just wanted to update a little bit. I have been driving the car and tryin to get it dialed in, I was having some issues with the stock ecu. I got fed up with it, saw a good deal on a evo9 aem (thanks Pat!) and put a aem in car. With some help from my main man Adam I got the car running pretty good so far. Air fuels are still a little fat, Timing is a little soft, but I am working my way there. :)

This pull was 41-42psi peak, settling at 39.x thur the pull. Its hot and humid as crap today. I ran the car with the little air filter ON the car still. I don't plan to pull it unless I am at the track.

She will get pushed a little harder soon. :)

I was ITCHING to race after driving the car around for a bit the last week or so, so we took it up to muncie tonight. I trailered the car up, and my friend Ryan drove his 35r powered evo up.

First pass off the trailer, I didn't really know what to expect, and I bogged the hell out of it. The car came alive and I shifted it quick but full lifts on every gear. A feel this thing out, kinda pass.

It ran

60'-----1.930
330'----4.746
1/8-----6.884
mph----115.35
1000----8.709
1/4------10.220
mph-----150.65

I was pretty freaking stoked after this pass went back up to the lanes after a peice of square pizza from the consession stand :)

I got a little happy on the 2step and blew the tires off pretty bad, smacked the limiter quite a bit before I shifted to second, as I got back on the throttle the car was really loud, I short shifted 3rd for some reason, then decided to run it out. That killed me as it hurt the 1/8 for sure. I guess on the limiter it blew the rear section of the exhaust off, the muffler and a small peice of pipe.

60'-------1.721
330'------4.528
1/8-------6.702
mph------112.28
1000------8.540
1/4--------10.066
mph------149.75

The next pass I blew the tires off, off the line, and missed 2nd gear. The car blew the tires off when boost hit in 2nd, the track was going away, still went 11.0 @ 145 missing 2nd :)

Ryan broke the tob clip on his car on his pass, so I stopped racing, let him use the trailer to get home and drove my muffler less car home!

I really wanted a 9, but I am happy with how she ran.

All runs where on 41.xx peak boost setting to 39.xx thur the gear. With the small air filter ON the turbo. Still lots of power left for sure. Last time I weighed the car it was 3340 in "race" trim. I raced it tonight just like I drive it on the street.

Very impressive. I couldn't imagine living with that sort of powerband, though.

It's got decent torque starting around 5000rpm, rev it out to 9k and that's nearly 4000rpm of powerband, which is pretty damn fat IMHO. Constantly revving the motor that high would be pretty tough on it though, and on most street/road course/autoX situations it'd be tough to live with, having zero power at 3000rpm.

Awesome. Even lifting to shift that dudes can shift that thing pretty quick.

DIY builds FTW

Yea, he ruined his motor trying to DIY the first time.

^yeah you are right, no one should touch their own shit at all.

No one has been able to put anything together without it blowing up somehow. Damn DIYers. lol

Oops, left out the part about eating one motor. Ya, that probably sucked balls. He was paying back karma for the luck he had on his stock bottom-end.

Fathouse is better at this than most shops, so it's hard to compare him to the average DIYer. :) His is the fat Curt Brown.

Haha so true. His stuff is always fast.

I think he used to have a turbo busa or something too.

Re: Fathouse's epic garage build: 10.0@150mph

Yea, he went something like 12.5 with a stock 1G DSM with his fat ass in it. The only mods were removing the exhaust/downpipe, removing the intake, unplugging the wastegate line and putting in race gas.

Him and Andre', always ran super fast with shit as well. Although both of them probably sleep in their cars at night.
