Garage projects: R.E.E.F. smim, Roll bar/ Roll cage work
I have a standard 2 car garage with a few to many things going on all the time. As you may have seen in my build thread the 2 car garage is a little full. I have a Airco 250 Tig welder, plasma cutter, Pro tools modified tube bender, press, air compressor full tool box and general metal fabrication hand tools. This is where most of the Galant build has taken place.
The R.E.E.F. SMIM for a 6 bolt head: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/P1010058.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/P1010057.JPG Here are the runner halfs, they are welding inside and out. Here is the die set up in my 12ton home made press. The manifold design was on my car last time it ran and I welded up a few for the flow bench test, which they did hold there own. The street version flows 449cfm per runner. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...cture_9042.jpg Here is the start to the radius entry into the runners. After it is welded all around the inside there is about 2 hours of porting to smooth it all out. All said and done it looks like it takes 20+ hours to complete 1 manifold. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...icture_003.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...icture_002.jpg On the far right is the first smim I fabricated for the flow bench test. This manifold flowed 445cfm in #2, 3, 4, but #1 flowed 440cfm. The plenum is a little small but would work great on a car with a turbo smaller then a SC61. Also here are the 2 versions, the "street" version and the "race" version. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...icture_032.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...icture_030.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...icture_029.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...icture_031.jpg Here is an 8 point 1 5/8" chome moly roll cage in an Mr2. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/P1010118.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/P1010112.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/P1010093.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/P1010122.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/P1010098.JPG Here is a 6 point chrome moly 1 3/4" roll bar with removable door bars. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...cture_8067.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...icture_025.jpg Here is the modified pipe bender and a snap shop of the work space. Just letting you guys know I am still alive, I plan to make it out to a lot more gatherings from now on. ~John |

Swing outs fit like shit, welds not uniform etc. The cage definitely will not pass any type of NHRA certification. (a 6 point needs no cert to run a 9.9) |

So you would feel better about questionable cage work being referred to more people? if anyone wants a cage done right go to ONLY APPROVED VENDORS CAN ADVERTISE HERE |
Re: Garage projects: R.E.E.F. smim, Roll bar/ Roll cage work
All I can say is if the cage does not pass tech and get the sticker then I will be fixing what ever the issue may be. FunkyMonkey58 I am not the best TIG welder around, and yes there are places a lot better at cage/chassis work then me. As for the door bar I think it was the door molding that was a tight fit, either it will push in a dent or the panel would need to be trimmed. The other option is bend the door bar more, but that would intrude on the driver more.

Re: Garage projects: R.E.E.F. smim, Roll bar/ Roll cage work
In the future I think you will have better success with swingouts using these.
https://www.appliedracing.net/produc...e8a75a41b5ee55 And weld a P on the bottom side of the passenger bar by the floor and a D on the drivers side. Some of the small things like not worrying about mixing up door bars is worth the extra effort. |
Re: Garage projects: R.E.E.F. smim, Roll bar/ Roll cage work
^That pic of the swingout mount weld was awesome, however the base plate welds looks a lot shittier.

Funky_monkey, you sure do talk a lot of shit. I haven't seen your roll cage welding abilities, nor have i seen your amazering supra put down any impressive power or times. Get off John's back and go work on your poopra. |
