458/1000 project

8 Attachment(s)
I've been working on this for a few months now and have it on vr4.org, but I thought I'd post it here since I know a few of you on this board. It had a blown headgasket only, but I want to keep it for a while so I totally tore into it.

I'm hoping to get the engine in the weekend and drive it in within a month, but I'm sure it'll take longer. I've been waiting for FP to send my 86hta for almost two months now so that's been frustrating. I'm hoping to get 400 to 450 whp out of it on corn juice with the following mods:

-sheetmetal intake
-86hta
-evoIII exhaust manifold
-3 inch exhaust
-walbro 255 and inline 044 bosch
-stainless -6an lines
-gm maf
-link v3
-fmic
-264 cams

I'm probably forgeting other stuff too. Of course all the gauges and control stuff you need to run safely.

Hopefully I can bring it to the cookout this year if our schedule works. Thanks for looking!

Badass, I would get bigger cams though. or do 264/272 if u dont want to go too big.

The old engine in the car had those cams when I bought it. I read a lot about the cams and it seemed that they make more of an impact on a stroked engine with a bigger turbo so I decided to just keep them. Hopefully it doesn't hold me back.

I wanted to but it was too rusted to save. Those valves on the rear subframe were shot and I found a replacement for one but not the other.

I bought this car after you listed yours as sale pending - drove all the way to IL too! Too bad it didn't work out better for us. Since then there's been like 3 more locally as well. Oh well, was a fun road trip I guess.

I pretty much put the kids down and start working on it at about 9:30 at night until midnight every night. It has taken forever but I'm getting there.

I got the engine in Friday night. Started at 9 and got done at 3 in the morning. Damn passenger mount gave me some trouble. Car has a fidanza flywheel and competition stage 4 clutch on. I also got the fmic and shock/strut assemblies back on.

Starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. Aniel at FP isn't really responding to emails or calls on that turbo, but I guess 2 months is the norm for their turbos. Tomorrow I'm going to call and bitch a little.

Been busy working on the car. Most everything is wired in. HIDs were pretty straight forward. The '93 headlights look great on there. I put the wideband in the driver's cub compartment since I really didn't want to do another A pillar pod job. I made a bracket for the coil pack and that other thing so all set there as well.

Making my own exhaust went pretty well. Much to my surprise it fit the first time. It's not straight in the pics as I haven't attached all the hangers yet. My noob welds aren't the prettiest but should do the job. I'm going to add one more muffler to the two resonators and magnaflow muffler to hopefully keep it quiet

Hopefully in two weeks it should be on the road. FP is still waiting for the mitsu housings so I'm just going to bolt on the 16g for now until it comes.

Just an update - wetsanded and buffed it. I put all new chrome molding on it as well that I'm pretty happy with. My turbo showed up yesterday so I took it straight to db for ceramic coating along with the evo III mani and o2 housing.

Can't wait to drive :drive1:

Re: 458/1000 project

Since when does DB do ceramic coating? Do you mean MAP?

trunks11 07-09-2010 10:56 AM

Re: 458/1000 project

DB outsources it (I asked and it's not MAP), but they do it.

Nice! I'm not sure I have seen anyone with a 68HTA on style yet. Or anywhere in MN for that matter.

There are a few nationally and i'm liking the results so far I think that I could of come damn close to 470whp+ with it.
