97 spyder has improved engine?
What years did they start revising to stop the crank walk.
This is also an auto so maybe I don't need to worry that much about it walking. |
Re: 97 spyder has improved engine?
98/99 have the revised split thrust bearing. Supposedly was a fix for crankwalk.

Re: 97 spyder has improved engine?
Not true. there was no fix for the crankwalk in the 92.5 and up engines. 7 bolt engines. the 99 they made an improvement for fixing the lifter tick. but thats about it. I remember reading something on magnus website about the possible cause of crankwalk being caused by failed oil squirters due to the type of squirter they used due to clogging or getting stuck open causing less oil to go to the bearings. They took a large saw and cut the engine in slices to figure out what happens. something like that or where the oil is actually routed was listed as the possible causes to it.

Of course there was no fix to it because nothing they did prevented it.
However, them using a split thrust bearing in the 98/99 is true and a way that is thought to make it less likely to walk. The 95-97 thrust bearing is a single piece. Search on split thrust bearings, you'll find some good info. |
