ever since i did the crankcase and pcv vent mod the engine has slowly started to leak oil from the valve cover and a lot from the oil pan. this is on a engine with all new gaskets that didnt leak a drop of oil before the pcv mod.

i remember i was talking to someone on here that said they used a vacuum pump on their crankcase. where can i get an electric pump? all i can find is the belt driven ones. how much oil does the pump pull out of the crankcase?

The vacuum pump will pull air out, not oil. It will keep the crankcase from building up preasure, it is supposed to help performance and it may keep oil from leaking out of gaskets due to less internal preasure.

it should still pull out a little oil just like the stock crankcase vent does.

I suppose it would, but i doubt it would be very much...nothing worth noting. The pump's main purpose is air.

i looked around a little more and found a list of cars that came with pumps on them. the only probem is they are all early to mid 1980's. so might be kind of hard to find one in a junkyard or even find one that still works.

Why the hell would anyone do that?

why would anyone use a vacuum pump, sounds just silly to me.

jd1828 04-22-2004 06:09 PM

its just another one of my weekly dumb ideas. i do remember hearing about someone doing this. i just cant remember who it was.

Raptor 04-22-2004 06:12 PM

No one is that stupid.

jd1828 04-22-2004 06:16 PM

i agree. you seem very opinionated on the subject

Raptor 04-22-2004 06:28 PM

Jason, I am kidding ;) I told you about the pump a while ago remember. Anyway, the one I used was from a diesel escort of all things. It is 12 volt and pulls a nice 15". Hope that helps. It was like 7 bucks at u-pull-our-parts

jd1828 04-22-2004 06:46 PM

:razz2: i thought it was you

how has it been working for you? do you have it so its on all the time or just a toggle switch. i was thinking of using a relay hooked up to an igniton line so that its always on. either that or a hobbs switch so that it only comes on when i really need it.
