Houston we may have a problem...

So blowing headgaskets sucks, Specially when this happens. Do you guys that run 1600cc's have issues with this last cyl running lean?

Yeah, it had a mitsu metal one in it and that just leaked coolant like a sieve.

Is that a normal Felpro or Topline headgasket? Those things blow at 300whp with no knock or anything.

Re: Houston we may have a problem...
It's a normal felpro, thought alot of guys ran those with better studs, guess I was wrong. I honestly think something is causing that cyl to be the one to detonate, I just replaced rod bearings cause the rod bearing on that cyl was trashed, luckily I caught it before it threw the rod, but I'm just wondering If anyone has had issues with the last cyl running lean from pressure drop on the fuel rail or anything else like that? Its a stock fuel rail, I have 1600cc inj. with twin 255's, only been using 65-75% duty cycle on the inj though.
The head and block appear to be flat within .002", as best as I can tell with a true straight edge, can't slip paper under anywhere. Of course the heads pretty well junk, maybe weld fill that hole and remachine it but I'm sure it would have even more issues then, and it's already having issues. |
Re: Houston we may have a problem...
I haven't had any problems like that from 1600s and stock fuel rails. Me and C3lica have run the crappy 1600s on a stock rail maxing out single fuel pump setups with the fuel pressure dropping like crazy.
I have had problems with the cheap non-OEM composite headgaskets blowing for no reason though. |

Ic, so as far as MLS gaskets go Fel-pro Permatorque>Cometic>Mitsu MLS right? and machine work is basicly a must for both surfaces?
