head gasket?
recently when i've been driving my car i've noticed i have really low oil pressure. it starts out where it normally should and then as the engine warms up it pretty much drops to nothing. when the cars not in gear and is idleing the oil pressure reads almost zero, and when i start goin up gears it slowly rises but not much. in fith it reads a little bit under the line where it is supposed to stay steady at, but it wont get up to where it regularly is.
could this be my head gasket being blow? or what? |
Re: head gasket?
You haven't checked your fluids? I wouldn't drive the car if its getting low oil pressure...
|
Re: head gasket?
Don't drive it until you get this figured out!!!
What do you see when you pull the dip stick? Is there oil there? What color is the oil? |
Re: head gasket?
if the oil looks milky you have issues
|
Re: head gasket?
1st thing is make sure it has enough oil in it, then make sure it still looks like oil. Low oil pressure usually isn't caused by a blown head gasket, ususally means your bearings are loose, oil pump is worn out, oil pickup is partially blocked, or your oil pan is caved in, or any combination of these.

Re: head gasket?
when i pull the dip stick theres oils, its brownish, and i need to do an oil change.
|
Re: head gasket?
Change the oil and see what happens, can't hurt since you need to change it anyway. If the pressure stays low, put a manual gauge on it to see if the oil pressure is really low, or if your gauge is wrong.

Re: head gasket?
I agree with a real oil guage, i your really woried about a head gasket we can find a time and ill compression test it

Re: head gasket?

Re: head gasket?
Does your car leak oil?
|
Re: head gasket?
not that i've noticed, i've been looking and haven't seen any yet. im still looking around the block to figure that out. also checking the intercooler piping to see if there is any anti freeze getting into it.

Re: head gasket?
Until you check the oil pressure with a real gauge, you're wasting your time. Find out what the oil pressure really is and go from there. You could just have a bad sending unit for the gauge.

Re: head gasket?
ok sounds good. i'll change the oil and replace the gauge with a real one, and post up results. thanks guys

Re: head gasket?
So what is the oil pressure supposed to be besides the 10psi at idle warm... I've heard 10psi per 1000rpm for a minumum, that sound right?
|
Re: head gasket?
Usually DSMs are a shit ton higher. I usually hit max oil psi by 5k like 80 ish now.
As long as i have my 10psi at idle and not over 100 at redline I don't care, actually its been over 100 before but I haven't gone wot or redline in so long i don't know what it does above 5k rpm |
Re: head gasket?
