What offset?

So I am going to be getting some new rims and tires in the future and was wondering what you guy think would be a good off set for me?

I have a 98 GSX and the rims are gonna be 17X8...

Got off the phone with Discount tire and they think I should get a +35 offset

Any input?

Re: What offset?

I was running 17x8 +35 on my 1g, and they fit really nice, so I'm sure they would fit well on a 2g as well.

Re: What offset?

what kind of rims were you looking at? I'm still pondering on these:

We put these rims (18x8) on a 4G Eclipse and it looked pretty badass. just a thought.

Too many people have those. Even in our local DSM scene.

Re: What offset?

If I remember right, I think +35 will stick out past the fender.

I think for 1gs/2gs a +40 is suggested? IDK.

Well I was thinking incase I do brembos in the future I want something that would work..

Re: What offset?

The 17x8 +35's stick out past the fenders a little in the front, but (at least on a 1g) if you try to run a 17x8 +40, they will hit the rear lower control arm unless you use a mild spacer.

Re: What offset?

You could run 18s. I've seen Rota's crack/bend easily evidently at work and now I'm not trusting them much (whenever using them for auto-x events). But if it's just for cruisin' around and looking nice, it'll do the job. I was going to say the Enkei RPF1s...but those are everywhere.

Something like these are probably what i'd do...but these are rota knock offs to the Volks TE37s

Re: What offset?

well if the rota's break then I might go a different route..

Re: What offset?

Any Ideas on some good rims that will look nice but I can take them down the track?

Im thinking black and would prefer the split spoke theme..

Re: What offset?

the rims that will look nice and can handle track abuse will be pretty spendy. Go to tire rack and check out the rims. Rims like Rays Engineering (volks), Enkei, BBS, OZ Rally. Those rims look pretty nice and I'm sure they can handle the track abuse.

Re: What offset?

Work Emotion CR Kai. That's what I'll be saving up for my next set of wheels. Along with that, Enkei RPF1's. And then something for show like Volks TE37.

Stock offset is like 42, for 17x9's, something around a 37-38 is best. Here's the rims pictured above on my car, 17x9, 28mm offset, which stick out way too much in front, hence my going staggered with these this spring.

Re: What offset?

You could just sell me those and get new ones, Steve ;)

Re: What offset?

Thank you for your input. I was kinda wondering about what the offset was on your rims. Expecially when it comes to sticking out LOL.

Re: What offset?

lol maybe he will sell you 2.

I wouldn't do black, seems like everyone is getting black wheels these days.

Re: What offset?

I think black looks the best on my re car. I've talked to a lot of people and got a lot of opinions on it. Plus I could care less what everyone else has..
